Default How often do you wax?

I'm guessing most of you wax every 4-8 weeks? (My previous car I owned for almost 2 yrs and waxed once, yeah I'm the king of lazy.) I've owned my new 04 for 2 months and haven't waxed yet, any reason to wait any longer to wax/polish? Is waxing mainly for immediate looks or for preserving the clear coat? (i.e. is it still important to wax in the winter)

Definitely WAX (not to be confused with polishing). Waxing will leave behind a protective layer that UV rays, road grime, bug juice, or whatever else will have to attack before it can start effecting your paint. Subaru's paint sucks so get your ass out there and wax. It makes the car look better too.

yah, whenever needed... if i wash the car more due to weather, i will need to wax more..but typically no more than once every month even during the real wet season.

OK, how about this...

You feel the car and can tell that there is no wax at all on the paint.

How many times and at what frequency do you wax the car to get to the level of wax you need to take optimal care of the paint?

....second that. I use a liquid carnuba wax which can be applied and removed in less than an hour. I polish and "liquid" wax every month or two. ......polish and apply pure, yellow, carnuba paste twice a year (this takes a few hours).

at the very least....twice a month in the warmer season (60 deg and up) and polished + wax every few months. it took great effort but having paint that looked better than new definitely paid off.

I'd say I average about 3 or 4 coats of wax per month. I'll put anywhere from 1 to 3 coats on at a time. Its garaged, so I can apply on a saturday morning, and do some other stuff, and get back to it later in the afternoon. I also use liquid based waxes (zymol cleaner wax, mothers carnuba wax, and meguiers gold class wax) so they go on easy and come off pretty easy. It stays pretty clean. If it ever rains, all I have to do it rinse it down and dry it off and it looks brand new again.

I am with you guys on that. I also own a black car and I wax my car every other week using carnuba wax. Very easy on and easy off unlike most waxes you buy. black cars shine like no other when they have been waxed

What kind of wax/finish do you guys use? Are there any special things to keep in mind while waxing?

...wow. This an old thread.

Anyhow, I would have to revise my statement that you responded to. Although I had great success uging quality carnuba products, the longevity was short lived. I have since found Zaino and have been using it for about 3 months. The shine is awesome and the application is effortless in compairison.

Amen to the Zaino.

Much easier to use then the Meguirs #26 paste wax, and I think longer lasting too.
