Default Need info for buying stuff from the USA

hi,
I'm looking to buy some stuff from a US vendor.

Did anyone here did this before ??

How did you ended up paying with the custom tax ?

I'm looking to buy a UTEC.

Thanks

Sam

All I know from buying a couple items from the US is get them to ship it via US Postal because Fedex/UPS can charge a big brokerage fee whereas US Postal hands off to Canada Post and they only charge $5 brokerage fee.

You'll still have to pay PST and probably GST and duty if its not duty free. Call a Customs border office to see if the item has duty on it.

Thanks for the info.

I'll check which solution turns out to be cheaper.

Some otherwise detail oriented vendors can become suprisingly sloppy when declaring value for customs and your item mysteriously drops hundreds of dollars in value, saving you a wack of taxes and duty.

These are the people you want to buy from. Ask you vendor how "flexible" they are with customs declarations.

They still have to fill out a custom form in order for it to be ship over from the States. Even if you try to scam custom they will go on Internet and check the value of the item if the declared price is a bit fishy (less likely to check values declare by retailers).

Consider shipping it to a location in the states and then picking it up at just pass the border.

You would
A: save on shipping
B: save on brokerage (is none)
C: If you lie about it at the border crossing then its duty free.
Ci: declare it but at a much lower price, but within a
reasonable accord.
