Default Calgary Subaru Meet # 2

Alright,

From the first meet, the turn out was great! Thanks to all of you that came out. Thanks again to Daven [freeman] for organizing it.
We noticed we had some traffic issues and lost vehicles from the convoy. Hopefully, the 2nd meet will be better (I'm sure it will, simple trial and error)

I might as well start the thread.

Date/Time?

This Canada Day long weekend isn't the greatest for everyone (I assume most will be going out with family or friends)

How about July 5th/12th(during Stampede??) or July 26th? (Doesn't have to be Saturday either -- but I think it's most accomodating for majority of us)

Suggestions previously mentioned:

- spirited drive out HW 1A to Canmore and visit the town/pubs/shops
- Banff/Jasper
- BBQ
- out door go-karting
- drive by 17th ave/Eau Claire market
- go to an internet cafe and play Colin McRae Rally Racing 3 or any other multi player rally game.
- paintball
- bowling

Anyone willing to help organize or have other suggestions?

cheers,

Foster

5th and 12th aren't good for me.. I have to work those days..

however if the Sun. 13th works for anyone, that would be great. Or the 26th works for me too.

or depending on everyones work schd.s we could always do a weekday evening.. it doesn't get dark till 10pm, so we could even chill out on a patio some where.

I am down with anything though..

We should set something up on a weekday evening. Weekends no fun for me since I work.

Bowling/go-karting sounds interesting.

On the 26th there is a big import car show. I can't remember what it's called, but I know as I have to work it. When I find it I will post it. Maybe a weekend different then the 26th then?

No matter how slow we drive, red lights can always separate a huge group. I propose we travel in groups of 5's or so next time we do a long trip.

We can always do more than one meet as well. I mean it is summer time, we should be out ALL The time! (weather depending of course)

I am game for anything though, those are my thoughts

There are no red lights or stops of any kind between Cochrane and Canmore. Keeping a convoy together would be easy from that point on. It's just the city portion that is difficult to maintain an intact large group. For the next long drive type of meet, we could meet on the outskirts of Calgary, or even in Cochrane.

Lemme be more specific then. Only when we're gonna do something that's inside the city.

If it's on the 26th, i think i can make the drive down. There are solo II's on the 5th and 6th, and one in edmonton on the 13th.

a sunday sounds good to me though. are there any long weekends(statutory holidays) during july? if theres a long wknd on a friday or monday we could do one of those days.
i like the sound of having a cruise to canmore on 1A. are there going to be any fellow edmontonians joining us this time?

Hey hey! I can't do it all alone. I'll need your expertise from the first meet Think Mirage might help out as well..

As for driving through the city (even for heading out of the city), what we could do is what Mirage suggested..

Have a convoy of 5 cars, and if we have enough FRS, each lead car will have an FRS to keep in touch with every other convoy.

But also, lead and other convoys should wait up if they can for the latter gang (ie. pull over when possible on a shoulder until the rest show up and pull up behind, then take off again)

Take last meeting for example, when we all left Deerfoot Mall. A lot of cars got broken up after the intersection leaving the mall. We could have pulled into another gathering spot prior to leaving highway 2 to wait for everyone.(ie. across the intersection near the industrial area where Safeway HQ is). That way we're all there and then could have taken off together onto HW2.

Just some suggestions for next gathering.

I'll help organize, but I'll need some assistance from a few others.

Default Facility Tour Offer again.

Hey,

It sounded like the first meet was a success.

I'd still like to offer a tour of our facility to the NASIOC group. We are moving this week and will take some time to get comfortable in our new place. Perhaps late July, early August sometime. You could start your meet at our place and then head out. We won't play the "hard sell" with you. It's not our style. We think there's some interesting stuff to see. We're building up a couple of Stroker 2.2 Turbo motors, we are building another race engine also, we have our exhaust manufacturing, muffler assembly, etc. I can arrange for an informative talk on any variety of subjects related to performance, by our Chief Design Engineer. Any ideas or specific questions?

Let us know what you think.

Nice pics of the first meet!

Hey,
Another meet sounds great. However, most of my weekends in July are busy. I have a few Sunday's open (6, 20) if you decide that way. Otherwise I would have to wait until an August meet.

Good ideas on the driving Foz, would be great to keep everyone intact.

I like the idea of meeting at TWE to look at what they have on the go. Then a drive somewhere, maybe re-rendevous on the city outskirts before a fun twisty drive to Canmore, Millarville, K-Country etc.

Keith, what are the possibilities for an evening or Sunday meet at TWE, or is a Saturday better?

I didn't realize we lost some cars in the convoy leaving Deerfoot mall. Initially, myself and codger got out ahead, but we waited at the next possible spot (airport road turn off from deerfoot) and a large group caught up. Because of the rain it was difficult to see back far enough if all of the cars had caught up. Oh well, we'll do it better next time .
I like the smaller groups of cars idea mentioned above for in city driving. For an out of town highway drive, the entire group could reasonably stay together .
I'm up for any of the above mentioned meet options, but it's hard to beat a fun drive to a nice spot (i.e. 1A to Canmore).

I would like to go check out TWE as well. Sounds like a pretty good meeting place to me. And if we have a small group wanting to go to TWE first, we can always catch up with the bigger group later.

Default Tech Works Tour

An evening visit would be the best for us. We have production running during the day so it would be harder to accomodate a large group. Saturday would be fine also. We try to take Sunday off, so I'd prefer not to do it then.

hmmm are these 2.2 turbo motors for the wrx? (sorry i dont know what you mean by "Stroker") if they are, are they like the TommyKaira M2Ob 2.2 engines that they make? its a 2.2-liter engine kit. i dont know if this is a whole engine package or just simply add-ons to make it a 2.2L engine, i just read it in a mag.

but anywho taking a tour through your guys shop would be pretty cool. where are you guys moving too?

btw...do different kind of FRS's work with other ones?
