Talking New MN member!!

Well kids, I finally decided to quit turning down jobs and took one in Plymouth, MN. I grew up near Brainerd so this is a bit of a homecoming for me. Don't be shy to say hi if you see me around, I drive a silver 2002 WRX with dark 17" Rota Subzeros and LOUD exhaust (3" straight pipe with Blitz Nur-Spec "muffler"). Texas plates for now. I'm moving into my new apartment tonight (just off 169 and 36th Ave). My daily commute will take about 5 minutes, tops. Rumor has it there are no emissions testing in Minnesota, any truth to this?? Maybe see you around.....I've already noticed TONS more subies around here than in Houston!

There is no emissions testing in the metro area. Governor Ventura got rid of that. I have heard rumblings that it may come back, but nothing substantive.

I'll keep an eye out for your car, I have a good friend who lives just off 169 and Cedar Lake Rd, very close to where you are. If you see a blue sedan with painted sideskirts, Prodrive muffler, STI E-code projectors...that's me.

Joel

(turning down jobs must be a nice luxury....I've been out of work for 3+ months )

I don't think they'll be bringing the emissions testing back for quite a while. I've got a custom 3" turbo-back on my car with a pass-through muffler but I still get scolded for an exhaust that pops and sputters as I guess that violates a statute. Haven't heard the SRT-4 yet I guess. I don't have a straight pipe since it's hard to get one that won't crimp on the rear halfshaft after getting a couple feet of air at 60mph so I guess the 2-bends will have to make do

I used to live off 169 and 36th at Plymouth Oaks apartments. I had a lot of troubles with them keeping our apartment warm in the winter (the heater lines kept freezing) so I hope you aren't staying there. Maybe they fixed that problem. Never liked the noise of that area either, but you get what you pay for and now I'm paying a lot more

I think it's ridiculous that law enforcement can give people a hard time about modded exhausts when there are thousands of Harley Davidsons out there making enough racket to wake the dead.

Motorcycles and trucks over 10k lbs axle weight are covered under different statutes. Basically the deal with bikes is a limitation factor where once upon a time it wasn't possible to quiet a bike engine much so they didn't impart the same noise laws on them. Now they are able to be silenced pretty well but they haven't changed the law. They're still gonna be louder than a car in most cases though.

Of more importance is the fact that pickups with "dual exhausts" are always trying to be louder than the bikes yet they don't seem to get pulled over nearly as often. I'm very tempted to put a track pipe on my car that exits under the passenger side door so that we can see just how far we can push the law.

I'm staying in the Four Seasons Villa apartments. Pretty quiet, so that's good. It's a BIG step down from Houston, we were paying $895 a month for a pretty decent 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car attached garage, about 1400 square feet. The apartment I have now is just your average apartment. Supposedly 900 square feet, but it seems a lot smaller. Rent is $599 a month for the one bedroom I have. Now I just need some furniture.....
