Post SVX-3

Anyone have any news on the possible return of the SVX?

I really like this car, and dread the day I start it for the last time (may it be long in coming).

I hope Subaru comes up with a suitable replacement soon.

I can't imagine driving anything else.

Every time I drive a car other than mine, I am constantly reminded that I am not in an affordable AWD car with a performance envelope ideal for my driving needs.

Maybe soon. Maybe not. I've heard rumors, but they are just that. I'd rather have a mitsu evo though.

I wouldn't consider the Mitsu Evo in the same class as the SVX. The Evo is a competitor to the WRX.

The BMW 330ix is probably one of the most comparable car to a new SVX in the US(assuming the SVX is still going for the Luxury, AWD, Touring car image), but then Subaru is going to run into the same problem as who would spend $30k+ for a Subaru, when the BMW is comparably priced.

While I realize they aren't in the same class, I was pointing out that both are highly unlikely to happen.

I must respectfully disagree.

Back when Subaru brought the SVX to market, they did a piss-poor job of marketing it, and for most folks $30,000 and Subaru did not fit in the same box, in the same way $30,000 and Honda don't fit in the same box. Thus Acura! (And Infiniti, Lexus, Cadillac/Buick, Audi, Lincoln, etc.)

The 2.5RS warmed some people up to the idea of Subaru = performance. The WRX will do for Subaru what the 2002 did for BMW and the Eclipse did for Mitsubishi: Get the badge whores to consider Subaru as a prestigeous brand. Which, unlike the early 90's, will convince folks that Subaru and >$30,000 DO go into the same box.

I still think the 1991 SVX is a better car than any 2-door Acura, BMW or Infiniti sold during the past 10 years, with the exception of a BMW 850.

I still get puzzled looks from the badge whores and policemen when I tell them that my blue gem is a Subaru.

Even if the WRX is not advertised like the SVX was, word of mouth on the net will do wonders-- if it were not for the internet, how many of us would even have heard of the WRX, Evo, or Skyline?

I wonder if the SVX will get some brand recognition when the WRX starts hitting the streets and the track. People look at me kinda funny when I tell them that I drive a Subaru but freak out when they see the car. "Thats a Subaru?.." And the thing is almost 10 years old now- talk about a diamond in the rough...

Exactly!

Imagine if Subaru had started selling the WRX in the USA back in the early 90's, back when cars like the Eclipse, 240SX/300ZX, Supra, RX-7, 3000-GT, etc. were hot. The would have had little problem getting people to buy a $30K Subaru a few years down the road. I hoping they get it right this time, because my SVX won't last forever, and even if I could afford a 911 Carerra 4 I would still prefer to drive a SVX.

I prefer J-spec style control layouts.
