Post Best tires for the SVX

I had the original bridgestone potenzas that came on the car and i tried a H rated tire, big mistake! but recently i put some 17" Enkei RS6 rims on the car along with some Nitto 450 Extreme Performance rubber(225/45). The car handles like a dream! The ride is definitely a little rougher than the 50's but not too bad at all. The most noticeable difference is in the wet, this tire is really great in the rain. Anyone who is looking for a really great looking tire with loads of performance should consider the Nitto 450 Extreme Performance.

I've had really good luck with the Kuhmo Ecsta 712's in stock size, 225/50-16 in a Z rating. They are cheap too, at around $75 a piece. Treadwear is a little light @ 280, but they are really good for what they are.

that is really funny because i tried to buy the 17" Kumho's from direct tire but it was out of stock so i had to buy the nitto, but i am not disappointed because it is a nice tire.

I agree on the H-rated tires. I made that mistake, knew I had done screwed up before I was even 5 miles away from the tire store. Stick with V or Z rated. Avoid the M+S rated tires if you don't drive in M+S.

I got the pirelli super sports, based on the reccomends of some other people at the time... they were great at first, but they haven't worn very well, pretty crappy now.

All considered, tho I've not run them yet, I'd go with the Kumho's based on all I've seen.

I changed from the stock Potenza to Dunlop SP Sport 8000s, and WHAT a difference! Much smoother over expansion joints, only slightly noisier, better handling! And for only $100 per tire or thereabouts. This was two years ago; they might even be cheaper now. I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and these tires were superb in the rain, slush and, to a certain extent, the snow. A huge improvement over the RE71s!

YMMV.

AaronB has the Dunlop 8000's on his SVX, but the only concern that he has noted is the slightly low tread wear rating.

I had the SP 8000s on my old "killer rabbit" project car. Pretty good stick in the dry, okay treadwear, but I heard somewhere that they were a little loud on an SVX. I have mediocre Falken tires on right now- they last forever, and handle okay, but boy are they noisy on certain kinds of pavement. I am going to try the Kumhos if these Falkens ever wear out...

And Want another STi

Post

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE940's which I must say are a pretty good tire they are great in the rain. I was going to buy the Kumho 712's but only needing one tire and probably upgrading to 17" wheels eventually. I just bought another Bridgestone. When I was at the tire store they asked me if it was a race car and then they tried to sell me a tire which is the rating just below V don't recall the letter and I instantly said no they said how fast do you want to go 200MPH. If only he knew how fast the top speed of the SVX was he'd shut his mouth.

sorry for the long post but I thought it was a funny story
