Not usually a huge fan of chrome headlights, but those look really good with the JDM fogs in that picture.

Thanks! I think they match nicely to my rims. Was originally going to to a blue and white. Getting either white or silver hella horns.

I used flat black engine paint.

I've not got chrome bulbs in place of the orange bulbs.

Well I think I'm a little late to this party but I finally did this to my05. No painting or anything, and I picked up another set of bulbs for the rear turn signals to eliminate the amber reflection.

Thanks to orangeman510 for the instructional. His thread can be found HERE

Here's my process and completion:

Removal:

Not too difficult but it did take some squeezing and prying to get the light out of place. Its quite the tight fit...

I also put down a microfiber towel to protect the paint below the headlight during removal

All the way out:

Painting:

Once I got the housings all the way out, I removed the bulbs and wiring harnesses, then removed all the screws around the perimeter. Its worth noting that some of my screws were hidden under foam tape and a white mounting bracket, so don't miss those.

I baked the housing for 15min at 200 in the center of the oven. At first I didn't want to risk putting them in too long, but the adhesive really wouldn't budge when I pulled them out at 10min, and at 15 min there was no glazing or other signs of overheating. Just go for the full 15 and you should be dandy.

Once apart, I removed the chrome bezel by unscrewing one silver screw and AVOIDED TOUGHING THE INSIDE OF THE LENSE. Next, paint...

I taped off the inside of the high beam channel so the silver would still show on the interior of the headlight. I thought this would give it a cleaner look and possibly preserve a few lumens from the high beams.

I also removed the triangular amber lenses and tossed them (this is where you need new amber bulbs) and painted the amber side reflectors black to maintain the shape of the housing, but get rid of the ugly orange.

After about 5 coats of semi gloss rustoleum paint/primer, I had the finish I was looking for

Next I placed the bezel back in the lens and heated the two halves for another 15min @ 200

Once heated, I replaced all the screws, put all the internals back in (including new bulbs) and reversed my disassembly steps

Here is the finished product:

and, just for reference, this is what it WOULD have looked like if I hadn't taped off the part I did:

TADAH!

Just a quick note that the initial images I'd posted were mislinked in a URL redirect for the past few months. That has been corrected so the images should appear again.

Thumbs up Thanx

Although this thread is already some years old, I just wanted to say "Thank you skivvie!" for doing this photo-instruction.
It was a great help for replacing my headlights!
