a tripod will not help much , the ambiant light is too low, a flash will help to fill it , but day light is the key for cars or a studio lol

Actually, low shutter speed (requires a tripod or it will be blurry) and no flash will give better results than using a flash.

look at my night pic, that's with no flash and 10 seconds on 7.1aperatue....

7.1 ?dont you mean F8 or F11, wich will give you more depth of field than you really need making you shutter speed longer than neccesary, Im a trained professional photographer and have photographed hundreds and hundreds of cars (my old job)... trust me lol, if any one would like some tips on auto photography
