Default Rear '02/'03 strut tops vs Rear '04 strut tops

For those of you wondering why the '04 cannot use the same rear springs as the '02/'03 here are pics of the strut tops. You may not be able to notice, but the top of the '04 spring tapers slightly whereas the '03 does not taper at all.

I put the '02/'03 H&R springs on my '04 using the strut tops from an '03. After 100 miles, no problems.

Thanks for the pics, that answers a couple of questions I had.

1. Were the 04 USDM cars getting the revised rear topmounts?

2. Could you use 02/03 springs on the 04 struts if you changed out the topmounts?

So thats a "yes" to both apparently. Thanks for the info. If you are considering JDM parts, the revised springs/topmounts appear on their MY03 cars.
