Thumbs up new and improved Zaino Z2 and Z5 polishes shipping now

from Sal Zaino: (courtesy of autopia.org)

" All the Z-2 that ships from my website as of June 9 is the new higher gloss, slicker, more durable version.... Killer product.... I'm always improving on my stuff... Z-5 will also have the same improvements as Z-2 plus it will hide swirls better.. Z-5 will begin shipping as of June27.... "

quick question:

I just traded in my 2003 wrx for a 2004 (I got a really good trade-in at the dealer, and the swap basically cost me nothing). Is it okay to start polishing with Zaino right away? I heard something about the clear coat taking a few months to actually "dry" or something on a new car.

Rule of thumb generally is 1 month, but your car was most likely washed and waxed when it was on the lot.

this has been discussed a few times over at www.autopia.org, and the general concessus is that the paint's been on your car and cured from the factory for months already, most likely. No need to wait.

If you suspect it's been waxed, use dawn to remove all old wax, use a clay bar to ensure the surface is 100% clean, and go to town with the Zaino.

Thanks for the news. I just sent my order in on 6/30 so I guess I'm getting the "new and improved" product.

btw, it's fine to wax/polish your paint. The factory paint process/equipment is different than what you would find in your local body shop. Before your car was ever assembled, the paint was cured using very high temps. These temps are not possible on a completed vehicle (components would melt). As a result, a curing time of a couple of months (or more) is neccesary on a car painted after the fact. Your car's paint was cured while it was still on the assembly line.

Junk! I just loaded up in May for a few months...I'm going to have to apply 5 coats this week then...

BTW- I applied my first Zaino coat about 3 weeks after I got the car. I agree with the factory and the trip from Japan is enough time to cure...

Jasvboost - What polishes did you use for the first time? Is the Z-5 (for swirl marks and scratches) necessary on a new car? Also, did you use dawn and/or a claybar to remove all surface contaminants first?

I'm just curious if there is a recommended Zaino procedure for a really new car.

fyi.....the purpose of using Dawn (the regular blue liquid) is to remove previous layers of wax. The claybar removes surface contaminants.
