Thumbs up PPP Stage 1

First: I have not ridden in a Cobb AccessECU Stage 1 nor a Vishnu SubZero flashed car so I can not compare the PPP Stage 1 to them.

After months of waiting and more bull than I care to mention from my vendor after they arrived in the US, I finally recieved my PPP Stage 1 hardware yesterday and my ECU today. Installation was pretty easy. The turbo didn't seem to want to let go of the old plastic y pipe but after some wiggling it came off and the Prodrive y pipe was easy to put on in it's place. My exhaust bolts were rusted pretty badly and took a lot of WD40 and brute force to get them to break loose. A new exhaust gasket didn't come with the kit although the vendor pictures all show them. I reused my old one and this didn't seem to be a problem as I don't think it's leaking. The ECU swap was also easy and straightforward, the instructions on Cobb's AccessECU webpage helped in this regard

After one day of just getting to drive my car to work and back I could certainly tell the difference from stock. The first thing I noticed is that it pulled harder in 1st and 2nd gear and boost seems to come on earlier and higher in lower gears as well. The car seems much smoother in the way it accelerates. Half Throttle situations don't seem so slow to respond now and it seems like I can speed out of lower rev situations that would have left me in a dead rev spot before. I have only one complaint and it must be because I am getting old but the exhaust is kind of loud and it's tip is pretty wide almost bordering on grapefruit launcher. I had heard that the WRSport model is really quiet but I would not call the PPP muffler quiet. It didn't annoy my fiance that much though, but I guess that is the price of free flow. Maybe after I get some more driving time I can elaborate more.

Post PPP stage 1

Congrats on finally getting your kit installed. Just wanted to comment on exhaust sound. I had the WRsport exhaust on my car first and I thought it was pretty Quiet in terms of mufflers out there. Nice boxer tone. The vendor that recommended it to me had this on his car with a turbo back exhaust. Having many different mufflers available to him to compare this was the quietest with no performance loss( All mufflers were put on a dyno) and best quality in his opinion. When I got my kit with the midpipe, I wanted to see if there was any sound difference. So I installed the PPP muffler. Honestly there was only a slight gain in sound. I am very happy with product. Being in my early 30's I didn't want that BRAT-BRAT sound that I'm sure you heard. On the plus side my girlfriend's daughter got the WRsport muffler for her WRX. Goodluck.

Thanks for the info about the sound level. We have weekly Subaru meetings here in Richmond and I have certainly heard some LOUD exhausts outside of the car.... I was just a little surprised about how pronounced the exhaust sounded in the cabin. Having not had an aftermarket exhaust on my car and only driving around in one other WRX with Turbo Back TXS system a while ago I really had nothing to compare the PPP to. So now I know that the PPP is only slightly louder than the WRSport... good to know as I was thinking the PPP was a lot louder... shows you what I know...
I guess I have already started to get used to the muffler because it didn't seem to bother me that much today. At 30 years old I really don't want to get pulled over by the police for a loud exhaust. I have come to the conclusion that it's not so much loud as it is low frequency so the sound waves travel farther and through things easier...
