The first thing I've gotta say is 'thanks'!
I found the 18mm Outback rear swaybar at a used parts place for $45. Bolted right up (after taking off the rust and repainting it a nice black color). Also spent around $15 at the hardware store for some PVC and fittings, and a few hours of work, and built a nice lightweight intake for my 2.5 GT. Add to that the $40 I spent on my K&N panel filter that fits the stock airbox for a grand total of 100 dollars. I must say that my car accelerates a bit faster, corners MUCH better, and sounds like a bat out of hell! I finally got the nice throaty sound I've wanted, without any whine, and with stock exhaust! I also got rid of 90% of that humming sound. It is just loud enough to say "I'm a damn sexy boxer engine!" I think I need to get a couple of breather filters for the two blowby hoses coming from the crankcase and the valve covers - any preferences on brands? Does it matter? I'll post pics of the intake after I paint it. Probably going to be a gloss metallic black or flat black. Thanks to all for all of the informative posts. I've had a blast doing some light mods for my subie, and I think I've been infected with the disease ;] Next on the list for this summer are new tires, struts, and possibly some new brakes and strut tower braces. -Aaron

Rear sway bar will do wonders to how these cars handles.
As for the breathers. Don't vent them to atmosphere. You will be causing a leak in a closed loop system. Take a look at this thread http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=1403 We were just discussing this. here's a pic of the pcv system, and how it works. It may be setup slightly different on the newer cars, but it should be fairly similar. http://www.main.experiencetherave.co.../pcvsystem.jpg Link fixed Last edited by legacy777; 11-29-2003 at 06:42 PM. |
