Default Buying a used Legacy?

My roommate is thinking about buying a used Legacy wagon ('94 or '96, or thereabouts). Are there any common problems he should know about when looking at a car of this age? I assume the timing belt should be replaced at around 120,000 km or so; other than that, are there any major issues he should know about?

Thanks!

Timing belt should be every 100,000 km. Do all the other belts as well, and maybe the water pump.

I have a 95 Legacy with about 275,000 km on it and it has had no major problems. It still has the original shocks, battery, clutch, radiator, exhaust, etc.

94-96 is a strange range, 94 was first generation and 95-96 are second.

The common issues are different between the two, its hard to be general. Ask about wheel bearing replacements.

Personally I say 1994, who wants the first year of a model?
