My son's svx has his 92svx at bell subaru (Rahway, NJ) for about 3 weeks. They can get it started but the car dies after a few seconds. AFter that it's difficult to restart.
The tech's have no clue what's wrong. The service manager states: "This is a new subaru franchise and we have no svx experience" I realize that it's a vague and broad question, but any help would be appreciated.

It could be The IAC or Idle Air controll valve but I don't know if that causes it to be hard to start. But that will definantly cause it to stall

Thanks to eddycat2000 (Subaru Senior Master Technician) from the Yahoo Club.
< Yeah, tell him it's a car. It needs fuel, spark, compression and air to run. And if he can't find a tech that can make it run, he's going to have a hard time keeping customers. Put a fuel gauge on it, hook up the select monitor and find out what's going on. It might take some time to figure out, but it should be fairly straight forward. Man I just do not understand where these people come from. |

I appreciate all the advice. kvn will be moving it to another dealer with experience next week. I bought my MY00 2.5 from bell a year ago, so I'm concerned for my suby down the road as well. Just spoke to kvn, he's thinking of the Flemington NJ dealer. |

Okay, here's an interesting one. Compliments of Morlbnr of the Yahoo club:
Before any of the other steps, I would ask one question - When did this problem start? Did it start this fall? The reason I ask this is I began having a starting problem last Fall. Never had it before. After the car spent a LOT of time at the local mechanic and then the dealer, who could not fix it, I got it back and "dealt" with it. When March came along, the problem went away. Then the "light" went on. Here in NJ they switch to a different (oxygenated)fuel in November and then back again March 1. The first time I filled the tank after March 1 the problem vanished and the car now starts first time, everytime again. I don't know why it started to happen this year and not last year. Further, I don't know what I will do next year. |

If the tech needs to see an actual trouble shooting chart, tell him he can go here. I scanned it from the manual.

I just said the same thing in kvnobrien's post, but you should really consider taking / having the car moved to a different dealer. These guys at Bell sound pretty incompetent, and I'd be worried what they'll do to the car in an attempt to 'fix' it.
BTW, they don't deserve your business. Let someone with better customer service than that earn your money. |
