Default Does WRX have a clearcoat?

Just wondering is our factory paint finished with a clearcoat?
Thanks.

Gjhsu, just washed the little beast this morning. Ouch! the front end is starting to get beat up. Thanks rrudorf, I thought it had a clear coat.

Yeah, it's depressing everytime I washed the car (like today) I always find new, small chips and knicks. But I don't worry about it too much since I don't plan on doing any car shows or anything.

Actually, not every car. Most do, definitely, but some manufacturers still make the choice to use single-stage paint. I've polished a '90's Miata; no clearcoat. I know a few people from Autopia (http://www.autopia.org, devoted to detailing) that have made comment that some new Lexuses are using single-stage paint for black, but basecoat/clearcoat for other colors. It would be more accurate to say that almost all cars since the late '80's have a clearcoat.

To find out if a panel has been clear-coated, use a mildly abrasive polish/swirl mark remover on a small portion of the paint. If the paint color shows up on the towel/pad you used to apply it, it hasn't been cleared.

To my knowledge, all current Subaru paints are basecoat/clearcoat.

Tortoise, thanks for the clarification. David at autopia has some great stuff. I was just telling him he needs to get on our vendors list, I hope we will see him here soon. Check it out http://www.autopia.org .

I had been told that because of the EPA all paints were now base/ clear coat.

If that is not true, I stand corrected.

I feel kinda like Subaru just used a "wee" bit of overspary on mine......

That's their idea of "Clearcoat" I think?.................LOL!

(Since the wifey wacked my car into a guardrail when I had it repaired I paid the guy alittle "sidechange" to REALLY slop the clear on the hood!!! )

Got hit by a meteor the other day................No chip!! j/k

A plug for Dave at Autopia, ordered some wax and other stuff on Friday/4th of July and the package arrived yesterday Monday the 7th. Looks like some great products at resonable prices.

My local suby dealer orders all their cars with a factory triple clear coat. They say it helps a lot. It better for what they charge for it.

All Ginster yellow GTI's don't have any Clearcoat! Up through 1999 which is one I currently own!
