Got the kit installed and working great.
There are some goods and bads about this kit: BAD: hard to find a place that's open on the weekends that sell c02. Paintball places can not refill it because the fitting size is completely different. only leaves welding places, fire extinguisher places...but these places are usually closed on the weekends. ![]() GOOD: you can use nitrous instead of co2 (like me) which are readily available locally at larger speed shops. sure its like$1.50 more per lbs, but who cares, the convenience factor is far greater. The kits comes with a 5lbs cylinder, but im using a 10lbs cylinder i bought as a spare for my other car. (if anyone wants my 5lb bottle, please check out the private for sale column; its FS never been filled, brand new). - - - The kit itself is very easy to install. if you've installed a nitrous kit before (non-zex type), it's almost the same procedure except the nozzle into the intake part...just plug the solenoid into the intercooler spray ring and that's it. Use the DEI Cry02's larger spray ring...it fits perfectly onto the factory USDM wrx intercooler. Since im using the factory uppipe i am not using the micro switch on the throttle linkage to turn constantly on at wot. My setup is more or less like a purge kit...just momentary spray button for the spray. You can probably fabricate this entire kit from spare nitrous parts you may have + the spray ring. Cry02 Kit: $289 Spray Ring (large) $79 Bought at One6 in Arlington Hts, IL ROAD TEST: 94F 69RH.... hot and humid. at these temps, intercooler heatsoak is very noticable at long traffic stops. i spray about 3-4 seconds before the light turns green which is enough to snow onto the intercooler completely. Result: absolutely no sign of heatsoak (duh...) now, i run wot in 2nd or 3rd gear and turn on the spray 5-6sec continuously. boost guage doesn't seem to indicate increase in boost pressure while the spray is on, but you can definitely feel the better efficiency of the intercooler. It feels like its running in 28F weather. ![]() Even after the run with the continous spraying the snow turns into condensation and continues to cool the intercooler as if there was a water spray kit. it lasts a long time. basically unless you are racing, the factory intercooler seems to work fine as long as you keep moving and dont' boost over 16-17psi. I think its a kit worthwhile to get especially for people in hot/humid weather. considering the simplicity of the kit, i would just buy spare parts and fabricate the entire kit next time around.
