Angry UTEC Stopped Working - Anyone Had This Problem?

Friday night, I went to start my car and, when I turned the key to the ON position(not the accessory position), the CEL started flashing continuously. When I tried to start it, the engine would turn over but would not start.

To make a long story short, I removed the UTEC and the problem went away. Reconnected the UTEC and the problem came back. Removed the UTEC and the problem went away.

Is it fair to say that conclusively proves that the UTEC is causing the problem?

Anyone else seen this?

I bet calling TurboXS is the first thing you'll be doing tomorrow morning. That's a bummer, man, I haven't heard of that happening before.

Check your switch position, both on the back of the UTEC and the remote switch if you have one, because it sounds like you have enabled security mode.

If not, give us a call on Monday and we'll walk you though a few things. If we canít solve your problem we'll work with either you or your dealer (assuming they are authorized to sell the UTEC) to get you a new unit.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

Nathan wins! I have the remote switch and it was indeed set to 7. I completely forgot about the security mode. I was under the dash Friday night, running a wire for my trailer. I must have pressed the button inadvertantly.

When I got in the car this morning to go to work, it dawned on me that the UTEC had the security mode and maybe I should check the switch. :embarassed: I never even think about that switch!

Yeah, it was the UTEC alright. Just doing what it was told to do.

Nathan, when I reinstall the UTEC, do I need to make sure the switch is at 7 when I connect it? I just want to be sure that there isn't a counter in the UTEC that can get out of phase with the switch.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,
It can be set to anything you want it to... of course if you want the car to start, Iíd set it to something other than 7.

Thanks, Nathan. I just wanted to be sure that, when I reconnected the switch, the UTEC would use whatever the switch is set to, rather than the last setting it saw when I disconnected it. Does that make sense?

if you can hookup a laptop, go into "Dashboard," and you'll be able to see what position the switch is set to. That should make you feel comfortable.
