Question so, should i let my BROTHER take the subie to his senior prom??

ok, my brother is 17 and his senior prom is coming up this saturday, he is BEGGING me to let him take it..he drives a 91 nissan 4WD truck..which i dont guess is good enough for him..

he will have it from about 4 til about 12, and id HATE for some highschool kids to mess with my car, which im sure he wouldnt let happen...he assures me he'll be careful and go slow, and wont.."get it on" in my car..

heres what he's offering me
full tanks on both..
since ill have to take his truck out cruising that night

and 2 free tickets to the drag races..worth 10 bucks..

i mean, he's my brother..
but WHAT A RISK!

this makes me think..i wish i would have went to my prom..

oh well..
WHAT DO I DO!!!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Prom days and nights are magnet for other crazy high school drivers. Your brother may not be a crazy driver, but his buddies may be.

Yeah but put a bunch of stuff on the backseat and floor. Not so it looks messy but so that you will know if stuff was moved.

Hehe...

I think there was a thread on the USMB about 'sex in soobs' although that mainly consisted of wagons with a few brats thrown in.

Cool

Funny story--which may give you the answer:

When I was a senior back in 1985 my Mom (divorced from my Dad by then) was dating a dentist who drove a Porsche 928. Crafty kid that I was, I figured he couldn't refuse if I asked to borrow it for the Prom. He said OK, but the look on his face let me know he wasn't too happy about it.

To make a long story short, I was street racing two hours before the prom and hit and destroyed a Chevette with it. The 928 is a tank and was basically fine. Still cost the poor guy $5k in repairs--lots of creased aluminum.

So go ahead and lend him the car, I'm sure everything will be fine.

It depends. You know him is he responsible? If you think so, then I say fine. I tend to treat others things better than I do my own. But I've seen others do differently.

No way! Everybody knows how those things go. Besides, what is going to say, "sorry honey it is prom night, you are gorgous, and eager, but my brother said no." Yeah right, If it meant he would have to let a fire hose go off inside that car to get whats on the menu he would. And say he is sorry latter. Not to mention all the other guys borrowing THEIR brother's cars. "My brother's car can beat your brother's!" He will definatly get that if he talks about your car at all to his friends. And then there is the haters. The rejects that don't go to the prom. And if any of themm wanted to go with your brother's girl...this is sweet revenge for them.

That being said, If my MY brother asked I would not hesitate to let him take it. He is my brother, and it is a special night. Good luck. But you better plan on him racing it.

Well, I've got a good prom story for you:

2 years ago, at my senior prom, three of my buddies were driving their parents' cars: BMW 535 and 528 and an Infinity I30. I wasnt involved since I was just driving my mom's outback. Anyway, we were all driving to a party after the prom and the three of them were racing. They passed a cop going the other direction at about 90 in a 30 zone. He turned around to follow them but couldnt catch them for a while. They turned off onto a road with 30 mph turns going way too fast. The guy in front in the 535 had just gotten back from one of those 4 day driving schools with his dad so he was really flying through the turns. The guy behind him in the I30 (with bald tires) was trying to keep up and ended up losing control and crashing into the guardrail at about 70 mph, totally the car. Luckily, neither he nor his date were injured at all. The cop had been chasing them so he was there about 10 seconds after the crash. The guy who crashed got a $600 reckless driving ticket and the other two got away with only a call to their parents.

So if you believe he'll be careful, go ahead and let him...

u could tow him with his 4x4 while he and his date are in the nice ride in back!!!

u could sit and park rite next to the car where ever they go till the car is home. i am sure u and ur buddies could hook up with that hot 18yr old senior goin to the prom stag.

i say let him the ride. let him have fun. give him a $50 spot for a room so he can get his groove on at the local motel. thats what big bros are for. don't u wish u had one. damn rent him a limo!! be a big bro let him ur car.

Why isn't he going in a limo or bus? Nobody drove to proms at our school, why have the responsibility of driving when there will be drinking and partying taking place?

why not. if anything would happen that's what insurance is for. Plus the RS is a safe car. I'd let my brother do it under the same conditions. Just stress the fact that there is no fooling around/drinking while driving the car!

Limo time! There's more room to have fun with girls in big stretch limousine than the Scooby. *trust me*

Yeah man I'd say let him borrow the car. First of all he's your bro, second of all he's offered some pretty good incentives for the deal. Third of all you are offering him a bonafide chance to 'pimp it'(in front of the lady nonetheless) as he turns heads all night. If you ask me screw the limos, there is no better way to travel to prom than a nice lookin RS

Make him earn it. He's just basically buying you off if you let him fill up the tank, etc. Make him show you that he's responsible enough to handle it. I'm sure he also looks up to you and wouldn't wanna let you down.

I wouldn't unless he is very trustworthy. I let my sister take my new '89 5.0 Mustang to her prom. It had about 1K on the clock and she roached the clutch and took about 20K off the rear tires!
