Default The official mountain biking thread

Anybody interested in heading to the Kettle Moraine trails sometime? Somebody mentioned it in the bbq thread and it got me curious. I don't work until 2:30 or so, so I'm availiable before 1:30-2 pretty much every day to go to the Southern Unit trails.

Yes, I was thinking of actually riding a bike on the trails, not just driving around the area. I've only been out a few times this year so far, so i'm not horribly green.

what do you mean by weather permits? the best time to ride is in the soaking rain. nothing like being covered in mud and getting in your subie.

saturday's too soon, maybe i can hang another time.

They close the trails if it is super muddy, but that said, they had them open last saturday and they were very very muddy. I personally don't really want to ride in the mud until I get some tires that are a bit more suited. I was having problems everytime the trail was off-camber because I had absolutely no sideways traction. Being that this is my first season on clipless pedals doesn't really help me in the mud either, but I'll give it a go.

wow, they actually shut the trails down huh? i guess they don't want too many people tearing up the track in the rain, especially since kettle moraine is supposedly one of the best tracks in the midwest.

first time i used clipless pedals, i came home with a bloody nose and shin. it wasn't fun. i stuck with the straps.

let me know the next time you guys plan a bike trip, i'm down for a ride.

Ok that sounds too advanced for me. I have an old Trek 970 singletrack, its nice a light, at least I think so. I went back to straps after a couple years of using clipless pedals, because all my clipless shoes/sandals are worn out.

I would like to join you guys some weekend as well. I could probably get my roommate to come along too. He has a Gary Fisher KaiTai and here is my baby, except mine is black and a year older.

I got the Giant NRS only because some ex-Formula 1 Renault engineer designed the frame.

I may be heading out Monday am, anybody interested?

I'm also considering possibly Friday am this week, we'll see how late I'm up Thursday though, if I'm working late everyday this week is tough to wake my azz up early.
