Default STi Turbo Upgrade / Engine Strength?

Anybody know if a turbo upgrade ( I know the turbo is pretty big already) can be done, or if the engine can even handle more boost? How much do you think the 2.5l can handle without internal modification? Is the new 6spd gearbox built better than the WRX 5 spd? I know when you get about 50hp + in mods on the regular WRX the trans can't really handle that much power.

Just a few questions, and I figure since you guys are actually driving an STi, you'd have a pretty good idea.

actually, the turbo is fairly small. the engine can handle more boost, but like always, you need to tune it to do it safely. im pretty sure (based on pure speculation) that the engine will handle ~450 pretty safely. the trans is a beast, also. wrc racers have swapped out their dog box trannies for the sti 6spd. cant wait till the good stuff comes out (engine management and bigger injectors).

also remember that the EJ-257 is a new motor and nobody is quite sure how robust it will be. wait until people start blowing them up before you decide how much power they'll take. 450 at the crank wouldn't seem unreasonible imho.

Where in the world did you hear that a WRC car would swap out a dog box for an STI tranny? Maybe the salesperson that sold you your car? There was even a quote IIRC on apexjapan.com from a Subaru engineer quoting that they aren't sure of the STI tranny's reliability over 400hp.
