Has anyone successfully installed a KnockLink unit on their STi? I just want to know, before I order one. Thanks in advance!

I moved my Knock-Link from my 02 WRX to my 04 STi and used the identical installation procedure. I mounted my Bosch sensor to the block right under the intercooler on the drivers side. The sensor is grounded at the body ground point on the transmission hump. I have my Knock-Link display unit mounted at the ashtray location and used the cigarette lighter circuit for my power/ground for the dispaly unit. It works fine in the STi.

PunksWRX,
Did you have to use a longer bolt on the manifold to hold the sensor in place? If so, is it hard to find the new bolt? Thanks. |

Yes you do need a longer bolt. The bosch sensor is probably 3/8" to 1/2" thick. On the stock STI there is a metal bracket that holds a metal vacuum line assembly in the hole you need to use (that hole is empty on the WRX). Just remove that bolt and take it to NAPA and get the same size bolt with the extra length and you are in business. Just leave the metal bracket sandwiched between the block and the sensor.
I spoke with one guy that mounted his Bosch sensor on the intake manifold bolt/stud which would be easier since you don't have to remove the intercooler but I would be a little more concerned about the sensitivity since the knock frequencies would then have to transmit through the bolt/manifold gaskets/intake manifold. I figured that might reduce sensitivity. Probably better to have it mounted right on the block. Punk |

I would mount it on the block. Thanks for your help, PunksWRX!

Hey Paul-
Have you seen any signs of detonation on the knocklink up here at 6000ft? What gas do you run in your STi? Just curious. Thanks |

the knocklink just shows you if you're experiencing knock. it does nothing to prevent the problem. but hey, knowing you have a problem is the first step to fixing it, right? |
