Default Problems with STi paint?

All,

I've seen quite a few references to "paint problems" by people on the forum with little or no explanation. I did a few searches but couldn't come up with any details. Can someone summarize the complaints, if any, with the paint quality on the car? What are the issues? Is it limited to only a single color? Has anyone tried warranty claims? Please advise,

-ch

i think the paint issue is rock chips and such. past subaru paint has been known to be pretty weak, causing it to chip very very easily.

My only problem so far is a rather large bird ... er ... "dropping" that got left on the roof for about four days because it was raining too much to bother washing the car. It left a "ghost" in the clearcoat that I have been unable to buff out even with some polishing compound. Nobody would ever notice it except me, but it is still there.

Now, four days with bird crap on my roof is unusual for an anal clean-car-guy like me, but I don't think it is completely out of line or anything. I wasn't parking in the sun or anything, and it rained a LOT so most of the mess was gone right away. It shouldn't have left that mark after only four days.

Subaru paint is weak. Get used to it.

Treat it right and it'll treat you right...........my advice would be to install a ClearBra of some sort (try www.Rockblocker.com) and then apply copious coatings of Zaino or Klasse.......ultimate protection for a daily driver (refer to www.autopia.org for the best expert advice you can get on car detailing).

Bill.

Bird poop has acids that harm your paint. I just rinse them off, with a garden hose, if I don't feel like washing the whole car.

Thanks for the responses. I think I am leasing, so I'm not too worried about the issue.

wewu: I don't frequent the BMW boards, so it's another hyperion. Tell him I want my name back.
