Default is my dealer straight? or feeding me ish?

I've paid my $500 down deposit on my black/gold Sti since beginning of June. I was put on the "july allotment". Being the zealous enthusiast that I am, I've called him nearly everyday. He now has only the last 8 #s of the VIN. He knows its at port, but doesn't know when it'll reach his dealership (Buffalo, NY). The problem is, I live in Northeast Ohio, and would like to be there the day it rolls off the truck. But he claims, he has no idea, and everything is outta his control. "It'll show up, when it shows up." And why only the last 8 #s of the VIN!? AH well. In any case, should I just let it slide, trust them with the PDI and all that stuff? OR be ever-vigilent about thaT?

the car will get there when the truck driver drops it off. i wanted to be there when my sti came in, but the damn driver dropped it off during the middle of the night. u think that the drivers would have a little more respect for people and their car. i mean, this isn't a toyota corolla it's a high-demand, limited production vehicle. it just seems like they would drop them off during business hours.

They will have an "idea" of when your car will get there, they always give an estimated time of delivery.

On the truckers thing, you have to think about the big picture, these guys have very strict time guidelines from their companies, and get penalized for making stops late. It would be suicide for a truck driver to wait around until the dealership opens to drop the car off.

I'm in the EXACT same boat!! I've had my order in for many months. My local dealer (WV region thou) said it should be here on the "week of July 3rd" Well, no Sti showed up. I call him back later and he said it should be here this month. No fault to him, he can't really make it go any faster...
I'm being as patient as possible waiting for my car which I'm guessing is a 2nd allocated car. (Silver/Silver)

I found your post interesting in that you were given some of a VIN#...rather odd. I have not been given any VIN# yet. It would be nice to get one so my insurance guy knows what my isurnace payments will be. (a Sti?, oh, its just a subaru right? hehehe)

I too want to be there the moment the car comes off the trailer. I want to see the PDI (forget work, this is important!) and give it a close inspection. This is by far the hardest wait I've ever had to be in. ( I know its just a car, but I'm a bit of a nut waiting for this one

Keep us informed on exactly when your Sti comes in. It really helps us know when ours is getting closer. PM me if you want.

Cheers,

Davis

Default I feel everyone's pain....

Well - I'm in CT and in the EXACT same situation...only maybe a little worse! I put my deposit down back on Jan. 11th (the first weekend after SOA announced the STi was coming here). I was told in late April that I should be rec'g my ride in the last week of May, 1st week or two of June. Well....when June's allocation report made it to my dealer it was discovered it wasn't my car arriving. ARGH! After being a bit of an *ss about it (not me normally, but I too have been WAY obsessed with this thing) my salesman spoke to his rep. from SNE....and could give me a 99% certainty it would be here for July's allocation. YEAH! So....about 2 weeks ago he faxes me a "Preliminary allocation report" with my car's exact options and VIN#. Then, much to my surprise he calls 2 days later to say the car's at port! (this was last Tuesday) He also told me it would take 5-7 business days to get the car from port to his dealership. BUT HE LEFT FOR VACATION ON FRIDAY last week! I don't want to bother the guy helping me in his absence and am checking my e-mail, voice mail, anything and everything every 5 mins. hoping to see a message from the dealer....this is truly killing me....(2nd allocation for SNE FWIW)

wistful - If your looking for any STI my local dealership just got a Blue/Gold Sti, the original buyer's credit didn't go through so they have it in the lot with no buyer. Let me know if you want the number of the dealership. BTW they are selling it for MSRP and they gave me a great deal on my trade in. They are located in Pittsburgh, PA

I'm in nearly the same situation. I ordered mine in early March, and am #4 at my dealer. #'s 1 & 2 came in the 1st allocation in early June, and I was told by the dealer that #'s 3 & 4 would arrive with their 2nd allocation before 7/14/03. #3 arrived yesterday...and the clock is ticking for me.

fyi when I asked for the VIN last month they gave me a partial # too. When I pressed the dealer, he made a few calls and got me the complete VIN.

Regards...

I know a dealer in Cincy still shows 2 black Sti's in stock. The site shows MSRP price, but I haven't heard if they were trying to mark them up or not. Could be worth a try if you could get your deposit back. Would be a lot nicer to make the trip to Cincinnati than N.Y. Here's the link for the web site:
http://www.jeffwyler.subaru.com/en_U...Search_1.chtml
The regular web address is www.jeffwyler.subaru.com

Also, a dealership near Dayton, shows a blue one in stock. I'm pretty sure they are selling for MSRP (great guys to deal with)
www.wagner.subaru.com

good luck!!!!
p.s. It's killing me to have all these Sti's around me and I can't buy one!!!!

Jeff Wyler is going for at least 5k over, and be careful if you go there. One of the black ones is used. Guy got it and from what I understand wrote a bad check so it came back.

You're kidding me, right?
It's a car.
To the trucker, it's freight.
If you want it delivered a certain way, I'm sure you can pay extra to have it delivered on a floating carpet in a protective bubble at your home right after you get done sipping you afternoon tea.

While I would like to see my subaru roll off the truck, I know it's not going to happen. They're at the mercy of the freight or transport company.

I kinda figured they might be trying to charge more since they didn't take pre-orders. Not sure about the one at Wagner too, I know they were selling pre-orders at MSRP. Not sure if this one is MSRP or not?

Excited would be an understatement, but I can relate in a way.
The fact that you called everyday may have them annoyed. I'm guessing you ordered from a dealer in Buffalo to save on the cost, so I'd attempt to calm down a little bit to avoid changing your mind on the dealer and paying a premium price. I was on the 3rd allotment (july-aug). I kept in touch with the dealer monthly since March. The dealer ended-up getting more on the 2nd allotment and they contacted me on the week it would arrive, then reported again when it was in. I don't think the dealer knows which day the cars will arrive. I had to ask what the vin was when it arrived. Situations may vary from dealer to dealer, but they are just as much in a hurry to make the sale as you are to pick it up!

actually i'm not kidding. my subaru dealership spoke directly with the driver of the truck and told him to take special care of the sti. well, he didn't!!! he took it off too fast and damaged under the bumper. if he had dropped it off during business hours i am sure he would have been more careful and now i wouldn't have to wait for the bumper to be fixed.

it may just be a car to u, but it's not to me. my sti is something very special to me and i expect it to be handled with care. i realize the drivers have a very important job, but it would be nice if my driver in particular had a little more respect or care for his "freight." not trying to start a flame war here, just stating how i feel. can't hate me for having an opinion.

STI 2 NV,

I agree with you... I too put a $1K down just this weekend. I was told that it will be in this week. I'm hoping to have the car before the end of this weekend. I even got the full VIN number to the car.

We'll see what happen... I was told that financing went through and all...

Wistful !!!!!!!

Going to NY is alittle far IMO.
I called around to hundreds of dealers trying to find a white one. I ended up going with a black one that I absolutely love. I got mine at Beechmount Subaru in Cin. Ohio. I paid MSRP last month for it and the salesman (John Gast) was the very best I have delt with ever. They had 2 WRB ones on the lot when I bought mine that were not spoken for and I know I found other Black ones in Ohio for MSRP. If you want to save some cash on traveling just check around.
Anyway, what ever you do enjoy the car, I cant say enough good things about, I have not one complaint.

lol, I actually live in Buffalo, and drive by one of the 2 local dealerships nearly every day. And, out of curiousity, I usually take a quick tour of the lot to see what's around (car guy and all, funny thing is, my STi is on order @ VanBortel in Rochester, since they only wanted $400 over *Invoice*...but anyway)...

So far, I've seen 4 STis come in, 2 blue, 1 Silver, 1 Black.
They all went out the same day they came in...of course I'm not saying I've seen *all* the STis, as I said most don't make it one full day on the lot before they're delivered. So I may have missed a few.

But, I know from talking to this dealership that they had *way* more orders than they expected to place cars for, I think they were hoping a lot of people would back out or get cold feet etc.

Last time I talked to one of the salesmen (I was looking at the XT after reading the reviews) he said he still had quite a wait-list going for STis...so you may simply be the next guy on their list, or, if they know you're out of state, they may be bumping you to serve their local customers (who they expect to see for service, etc etc). Not saying they *are* just saying it's possible...

They should have a manifest that looks ahead about *3 months* and they should know what's already in port and ready for transit to their dealership, so they should have the full VIN on every car they expect. They may be giving you the last 8 simply because the first 8 simply are common to all STis.

Were I you, I'd call up and have a little heart-to-heart with the Sales manager, be sure everything is as it should be.

Can't hurt, you've given a deposit, and the phone call is better than a drive up here...

Oh, and when you DO get here, be sure to check the tires. The first one the dealership had looked like the Staff had taken in a little AutoXing, and nicely blued the shoulders of the tread blocks...

...oh, and if you want, I volunteer to take the burden of delivering your car to you in Ohio. ((j/k))

Well.. I had originally had an "oral" contract with one local dealership. It was on a Wednesday, and I had school so I couldn't make it out till Saturday morning for one at MSRP. Some guy came in and offered 5K + MSRP.. poof, car snatched out from under me. This was from the first allotment. So, I went online and typed in my zip and started calling dealerships. The one to Buffalo is actually closer to me (Akron) than Cinci. IN any case, my car is coming into Northtown Subaru for MSRP, so i'm content. i've got a contract and a bill of sale and everything, so if I don't get my car w/in 10 days (MAX!) I'll be

-patiently waiting.
Don

p.s. My friends are driving me up to Buffalo in their RSs if anybody from Buffalo wants to meet up.
