How hard would it be to modify the current exhaust to make this work?
I think I would like the look of two mufflers, one on either side peaking out of the back.

There isn't an extra tunnel for the 2nd midpipe.
You'd be hard pressed to tuck it somewhere up in the underbody to keep it out of harms way. Well, if you convert your car to be FWD, you could use the rear driveshaft tunnel! ![]() j/k LaterZ! Darren!! |

Yep, there is only room to split it AFTER the rear axle, or get one of those mufflers with a single inlet - dual outlet.

Since you dont have a profile, what year/make is your car? You are probably going to have issues if you even want to try this with the various parts on the opposing side of the car, along with crossing over the Diff, transaxle and crosmember, along with modifying the bumper and other things...

Besides trying to fit it under the car, you will have to have it as a perfect ""Y " so it can somewhat flow evenly.

i agree with m750
i think for a 4cylinder engine there is no need for 2 exhaust pipes or 2 mufflers. i think this would amount to hanging a 2nd muffler without connecting it |

Well I was bored again, so here you are, something for you to think about. At first I thought this would look like crap, but after a few minutes with photoshop, i came up with this. I DO think it would look absolutley rediculous if you went with a Dual T.P. Launcher set up, but this actually doesnt look too bad. But on the other hand... it would only be a comsetic mod, you wouldnt get any more power out of your car, probably just more weight. It would also probably make your boxer engine sound like a honduh civic, dont spoil it. anyways heres the pic. oh and before people ask me how/why i "did" that to my car, if you couldn't tell already its all cut and paste

don't go dual, a kid with a celica gts in my apartment complex just went to dual exhaust, and now it sounds like a honda with a fart can, it actually sounded pretty good before, not to mention he has fart cans and it look pretty rediculous with all the other rice mods done to his interior

The charcoal canister sits under the left hand side of the rear bumper. Can't do it w/o SERIOUS modification to the fuel system.

I talked to a guy that ran a setup on his brat that had the primaries of the header collecting then ran two individual secondary pipes all the way back to the rear bumper. He said it sounded like a Harley with a very distinct seperation in the exhaust pulses.
I bet it sounded sweet!!!! ![]() |

As BOY mentioned, there's no room for a second muffler on the passenger's side of the Impreza. You'll have to rework that section before dreaming dreams of dual exhaust.
FWIW, dual exhaust at that point (4-2-1-2) is purely a looks modification. No performance will be gained. In fact, you'll only be adding weight with another muffler, so... |

The exhaust piping is no big deal. Routing it under the car is the problem. Mufflers are big, unless you get a melon shooter and hang it low underneath. Some of the Accord V6 aftermarket exhausts come to mind.
The 4-2-1 exhaust configuration works well on the Subarus. Splitting them off to dual pipes afterwards is where it becomes a looks thing. Honda S2000 is a 4-2-1-2 system. So is the Camaro (well, 8-2-1-2). |
