Post SVX???? Do I want one

I was going to purchase an impreza 2.5RS, but I saw an SVX for sale neer my house and I really like the body style. My question is do I really want one? I have heard a lot of bad things about them and really no good. What would you guys do???

Depends on what you want to do with it. For looks, it wins. But it's an automatic. I have both a SVX and a RS-T. I love them both but I'd sell the SVX if I had to choose only one.

buy the 2.5 RS or WRX.

SVX is major let down in the parts and service areas.

A SVX is a very reliable ride as long as you know what to look for look at the transmission fluid is it cherry red or dark brown. Ask them when the transmission replaced and by who. As long as the transmission was replaced by a Subaru dealership and not Joe Shmoe and the transmission fluid is more red than brown. The SVX engine is good for 150K+ miles if it has been taken care of. And it is a lot cheaper than a RS

I want it for looks, speed, and durability. I love the looks and I heard they are pretty fast. But I also heard that they have reall bad mechanical problems, is that true? If so is it worth buying one?

Depends on how well the SVX was maintained.

The cars are good for more than 150K, my SVX is at 160K and the SVX owned by Vern! should be up around the 175K mark by now. And these are for cars that are driven quite hard. Over on the Yahoo board there should be a few with well over 200K by now.

If the SVX has been well maintained, the only area of concern will be the transmission. If a transmission cooler has been installed then you are likely gonna be OK.

The biggest factor will be how many miles, what year is the car, and how much are they asking for it?

(Parts are OK, but finding a decent SVX mechanic is not easy)
