I thought that all spped limiters were programmed into the ECU. In order to remove them wouldnt you have to reprogram your ECU or get a different one? I dont know thats just what I assumed.

Seriously, the ProECM removes the limiter but I'm unsure how. You may want to talk to Larry Ganz or IWTU electronics (makes both the Torque Chip and the ProECM).

not all cars have the speed limiter in the ecu. my friend has a escort zx2 hes been tuning for some time (yes i know...its lame but whatever) and he sliced in a switch for the governor directly into a white wire under the cupholders and that does it.

If it is a 96+ you can use the OBD-II port to reprogram it without the limiters I believe.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the limiter is actually set to on a 2.2L Impreza? Would it actually be worthwile going through the trouble to remove it since it's likely set close to where the car maxes out anyway?

Contact "wac" (Wayne Chin). He's done this on his 97 OBS, even going so far as to put in a switch.

well, if its the same limiter used on the 99 EJ22, then its 110 mph indicated. And with slight mods, thats nowhere near max.

You could use the Apex'i Rev/Speed meter. You can set it up so that it intercepts the speed signal, and tells the ECU that it is still under the limiter, or something.

Wow, I didn't know there was a speed limiter on the 2.2l. So it is around 180kph. I guess I never have achieved such an excessive velocity. I have seen around 170 at a track day but ran out of straight.
That kind of speed would require a long time to achieve. I am curious to see the answer though. |

I really did not think that there was a limiter. My friend has a 2001 2.2l L wagon automatic and ive seen it over 120 MPH. My 95L AWD has been to 127 and i was almost out of 5th gear before i lifted. As far as i know on my 1.8ECU its only limited by the rev limter in 5th. therefor by removing the rev limiter the speed limiter would eb removed.
