Default Some question for the SWAPers....

OK...here goes. I am swapping a MY02 WRX engine and 5MT into my 98 AT RS. I want to get a UTEC....should I get the car running without the UTEC first?

I am planning on runnning a WALBROpump from the get go, do I need engine management to compensate for this?

And lastly, I have of a STI Ver.7 clutch and flywheel, should I take it ??? If so, what is different and worthwhile about the STI clutch and flywheel??

I originally wanted to complete my swap as completely stock just to get a reference. My reasoning was simple, I wanted to make sure that if I had problems I had fewer variables to take care of. However, I am taking the opportunity to work on the engine out of the car so I am adding in a lightweight flywheel, catless up-pipe, and downpipe. These are relatively simple mods in terms of troubleshooting complexity so I don't think it would be a problem.

In your case, though, I would definitely hold off on the UTEC. It can be added later with relative ease. I think the car should run ok with the Walbro. Heck, I ran my RS with a 255lph Walbro on stock engine management (car wasn't stock though). It may run richer than it would otherwise, but the FPR should be a decent flowing unit. Conversely, though, if you are getting the stock pump just put it in. Swapping out the fuel pump isn't more than an hour's job. I don't recall if the STi V7 clutch/flywheel fit ok or not. I remember hearing opinions from both sides of the fence.

My 97 swap is staying stock for a few days.... I'm installing everything, fireing it up, seeing if everything works well... once everything is workin out... I'm dynoing it's stock power as a base reference.

It then comes off the dyno and then on to a lift for APS intake, 3"downpipe, and then Unichip... it then goes back on the dyno for tuning.

I have already purchased a PDE ceramic coated up-pipe and an MRT DP with highflow, as well as a Bosal 3" dual tip exhuast. I'm goin to slap all that on right away...then I'll make sure it all runs fine then I'll start the UTEC fun!!

Thanks guys!!

Yes its 1 inch to large.... you can shave you bell housing but thats not fun. Sell it and get a sti 5 speed clutch. They are easy to get www.subaruwrxparts.com www.rallispec.com and others have them.

do you have access to an obd-2 reader ..

the general thought is that yo do the swap in close to stock form
then look for trouble codes from the ECU in effort to find the bo-bos

The stock ECU controls that pump just fine. It is capable of pushing more fuel but it still obeys the manifold + 42 psi (IIRC) rule. I would wait to put the Utec on until the car is running good (one less variable).

p.s. A RS with WRX engine is sweet, a local guy is running catless with TXS exhaust stuff and a Utec. Man is it fast.
