Question Has anyone tried to take off the wing?

Hi. Got my STI delivered Friday nite and i'm already thinking about modifying it. I was wondering if anyone has attempted removing the rear wing from the trunk. I know, this sounds like a crazy idea, but I like the thought of a "sleeper" and the wing is drawing too much attention. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

i know of a couple instances.

one dude took it off and welded the holes and repainted the whole trunk lid.

another just used plug holes to cover them and painted the plugs. he used a CF STi wing from japan. you know, the APC looking kind...

I personally like how this one looks. If I remember correctly, this guy bought an 03' trunk when he bought his Sti and just swapped em'.

Well, I took the wing off. Now I have 17 holes in the trunk lid - eek. I'll try the rubber grommet thing until I can spring for a wingless replacement trunk lid. The springs on the opener now shoot the lid skyward faster than you can get away.

And the wing weighs 18 pounds according to my bathroom scale.

There sure seemed to be lots of dirt under the wing on the trunk lid - owners beware, rust potential.

Thanks

Default Wing back on - surrender to it.

Got up this a.m. and spent an hour trying to find grommets or plugs or rubber washers and bolts to plug the holes. I finally figured out that nothing was going to look less than silly.

Went home, put the dam thing back on. Now I appreciate it more...

Have to wait for a replacement trunk before I can motor undercover.

Man, it's so hard to take it easy on the break-in when every idiot in a 5 liter mustang or a Honda wants to prove
something.
