Smile Fix for random body squeeking- check the sunroof!

I've had an annoying squeek going over bumps. It's gotten worse in the last few weeks and sounded like it came from the rear spoiler. When I tightened the spoiler down the squeeking lessened, but was still there. I stripped off the old weatherstripping off the spoiler and got a new bead of silicone rtv on there- this helped, but the squeek was still present. I tried lubing the hatch seal, tightened all the bolts, tried driving with the rear seat folded down, etc. and kept driving around the block trying to trace this thing down.
Damn. This was getting to be annoying and frustrating. It took a lot of time to trace this one down, and didn't figure it out until I tried the sunroof today. No squeeking. That was it!!! Some silicone lube on the track and on the little rubber seal, carefully applied with a paper towel, and voila. No more annoying squeek. After doing a search today, seems like the Impreza folks have this problem too, but their cars aren't as old and such as ours. So, check and lube that sunroof seal, it'll make your car sound like new! It also helped to 'tighten' up the car by checking all those random bolts holding up the trunk lid and spoiler too- car feels very solid now.

Glen
