Boring question: 1994 Legacy turbo SMOG equip.

I live in CA and I think I've found an out-of-state Legacy Turbo but was wondering what (if any) additional SMOG equipment there was on CA versus non-CA cars. I wish I had something more exciting to ask, but if I FINALLY become a Legacy owner then I'll be back for the fun stuff...

I don't think there is anything that needs to be added.

ciper lives in san fran, he would probably know for sure of any differences.

I think N/A cars have their own exhaust parts...

The question is whether Subaru sold a "California-only" version of the 1994 Legacy Turbo. If not (i.e. all 1994 Legacy Turbos were 50-state legal), then the emissions sticker in the engine bay will say that it complies with California emissions standards and you're home free. Otherwise you'll have to pay a $300 "smog impact fee" when you register it in California.

Edit: Whoops. Just found out the the "smog impact fee" on out-of-state vehicles was recently ruled unconstitutional.

I was going to say something similar. On average you'd end up paying 500 dollars in registration when you had an out of state car. It especially sucked when your 1000$ car cost 400$ to register

Id like to say that all of the cars are the same, but I thought I remember reading about a jumper on the ECU telling it 49 state or 50 state (which you could disconnect to become 49 state). This could have been from my Supra service manual though.

Ill know real soon though, Texas 91 subaru legacy turbo sedan engine into my california 90 legacy wagon.

Yeah there is something to specify whether a car is a cali car or not.

Looking through the wholly exciting CA DMV website, I came up with this:

A federally certified vehicle may be registered in California without modification as long as it has all of the emissions equipment which was on the vehicle when it was first sold.

So it looks like I'm OK on the SMOG stuff (it's completely stock underhood, with all the original equipment). I'll find out for sure when I drive it home this weekend!
