autometer EGT

what can i say? i bought the kit (gauge + probe) from summit racing.

seems to react quickly enough... a throttle blip will show about 50 degrees. idle is about 800, hard 4th gear pull around 1500, extended compression braking down hill drops it to 400. i have a joe p mbc set to 15.5 in 4th. stock exhaust system.

mounted the sensor on driver's side collector, right on the outboard casting button.

mounted the gauge in an autometer cup on left hand side of steering column. i did have to cut the pannel mounting bolts which are on the back of the gauge in order for it to fit the cup nicely.

got the 11/32" drill bit and 1/8" NPT tap at home depot for ~10 bucks. i called around to a few HDs before i found one that sold individual taps. i already had a tap handle.

start with a small drill bit (the cast pipe is hard) then enlarge up to 11/32". use oil on the tap, and don't tap too much--the threads are tapered and you want the bung to just reach the inside of the pipe when you snug it down.

took about two hours to install completely.

didn't change exhaust gaskets, torqued bolts to spec, no leaks.

for the price you can't beat it! i feel safer while driving, especially on the highway.

Which model EGT? Part number on the probe?

i know the kit was #3344, 2 1/16 inch gauge.

i don't know what thermocouple they included. maybe i'll write or call up autometer...

The probe sold with that kit is the standard "street" probe. Summit PN# ATM-5249 or Autometer PN# 5249
