Default Turbo smoking??

Hi everyone!

I have actually researched this topic and haven't gotten any awnsers.

Is it normal after pushing the car that the turbo is smoking? you see steam coming out of it. Perhaps its a dumb question, but I have never had a turbo car before.

The set up on my car is a factory WRX turbo set-up onto an EJ25. I have the lines for water and oil feeds as well as return lines all hooked up just fine.

Also I set up my boost controller to peak at 6.0 but when I push on it I have gotten all the way to 9.9psi. (boost controller is a Greddy ProFec E-01)

Any advice will be very well apreciated.

-Thanks

sounds like a seal or gasket might be failing a wee bit. perhaps it's coolant boiling off or oil burning off. i'd keep a close eye on it. but it might just be something else (like other moisture somehow getting on it).

Hey thanks. I don't think its a gasket due to the fact that ounce I stop the car after a hard run and then look under the hood I see that turbo smoking. If anything I really hope that it's a gasket. If it is an oil or coolant leak, what do I do? does it mean the turbo is going bad or the oil/coolant is not getting there properly??

when you hooked up the lines, did you use teflon tape or paste on the threads? I'm willing to bet its a small leak from one of the lines... I just had to repair one on my car...

Well, there is one leak. an oil leak on the turbo's oil return line to the pan. It is very small, and I don't see how that would make the turbo smoke?

where are you in va?

do you see this "steam" coming directly off the turbo? is it coming off a specific part? I'd still check all the lines.. just to be sure..

I'm in Alexandria. I will go ahead and do that today. I'll check all those lines. Thanks. OH, and I am pretty sure the steam is coming directly out of the turbo

If you were closer I'd offer to meet up with you... but you're about an hour away...

There has to be some type of leak to cause steam.. cause steam is visible water vapor...
