Default Pictures and video from the Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs

I was going to post these this weekend but read the news about Lovell and Freeman and decided to wait a few days. RIP

Here are my pictures of the Baie-des-Chaleurs rally that was held in New Richmond Quebec on July 4th and 5th.

http://stimpy.sysop.ca/pictures/inde...allye_BDC_2003

I'm a bit of a picture whore so there are 311 of them.

Also, here's a compilation video I did, it's got some of the best scenes from the hour of footage I took. The file is 22mb and requires windows media (sorry mac and linux guys). Please cover your ears around 58 seconds into the video, I got a little excited, haha. Please right click and 'save as' so we don't kill my poor server.

http://www.subaruclub.ca/downloads/bdc_rally-short.wmv

My highlights from the weekend were the following:

* Driving 7.5 hours to New Richmond, thinking to myself that we're lost and then meeting rally cars on the road heading to the service park. "I think we're here"

* Heading to the service park and talking to teams about the first stage on friday night (we missed it).

* Pat Richard missing the corner in the spectator's area but handling it like a champ and getting back on the road in no time. (first car in the video)

* The black WRX doing the exact same thing a few cars later but trying to make the turn instead of going straight like Richard.

* Eating the dirt and rocks from all the rally cars.

* The Valley tire impreza wagon. Later at the Paynter brothers afterparty I talked with the co-driver of the valley tire car and he said they spectated a few rallies and decided they wanted to try it. This was their first rally ever! They found an Impreza wagon listed in the paper and went to check it out, it had really high KMs and an engine tick but they got it for a song. They replaced a burnt valve and raced on the original motor! He couldn't get over how a basically stock wagon with high kms could take such a beating and keep running like a charm. The back bumper has "Caution, Groceries Inside!" written in big white letters.

* The kegs of 'Subabrew' that John and Clark had at their afterparty for everyone.

* The cruise back with John, Clarke and all the guys.

It was a great time and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Excellent! Do you have any video of car #31 (Audi 4000)?

Here I am recovering from car sickness (in the black race suit)

Thanks!

I have video of all the cars, I just picked out the top ones to show because no one will download a 200mb video :-) . I was the guy with the digicam that came over and talked to you guys around 1am on friday, I was talking to the guy that put his car in the woods and you guys asked if I was an Audi Fan. I said, yeah I love em but I can't afford them, that's why I drive a subaru. haha.

I'll edit up the footage and post up a link with vids of you guys later tonight. Check back in here in a couple hours and it should be up.

Awesome! My driver will get a kick out of that. In thanks, here's the in-car video from the same 3 spots. I figured out that you filmed us on stages B2, B5, and C1, so hopefully you can pick yourself out! Is that you in the bright white t-shirt?

http://homepage.mac.com/jeremyrowlan...arpetsloth.mov

You got our worst hairpin of the whole event! Dave swears that they graded the surface from the 3 previous times that he had been through there (we ran that hairpin 5 times total, on stages A1, A3, A5, C1, & C2). We had a puncture on the that very corner on the first stage on one of our new Kuhmos, so we put 2 old Michelins that were at the end of their life. Also damaged the tie rod on the same wheel, so the car was less than optimal all weekend...

I'm hoping to get some complete videos of stages up sometime this week. I'm still only like halfway through cleaning up the video and deleting all the transits that I accidentally recorded by forgetting to stop the camera.

I still haven't found any videos of us at the jump at the end of that section, but I know of someone who got some other cars there, so I'll ask them.

Thanks!

Yeah, there seemed to be a rut of sorts that went from the spectator gate to the other side, it was worst on inside corner (that little opening was traveled by thousands on friday when it was wet). When lachute hit it sideways their car made such a sick sound I thought for sure they broke an axle or something. Richard took the corner so wide he missed it. I wouldn't be suprized if they graded that corner to try to reduce the rut.

Thanks for the in-car! That's awesome! Yeah, I was the bright white shirt (my nice 'not so white anymore' shirt with "subaru" stiched into it). We were going to go to the jump but I knew we wouldn't get close enough to get a good angle for taping, they have some jumps on the rally's website though. Looks like fun! Are you guys going to do either DEFI STE-AGATHE or CHARLEVOIX this year?

I don't think Dave is going to do any more Canadian events, unless the US Clubrally suspension continues and the 3 Northeast events scheduled in Sep, Oct, and Dec don't happen. So if I decide to do them, I'll have to find another driver. I'd like to do Defi and Tall Pines, but I just signed up for an "advanced Co-driver's school" at Team O'Neil, which is the same cost for me as a rally. So money might be a little tight for the rest of the year, unless I find a driver who'll pay my costs as well.

I would LOVE to do Charlevoix, but if I did, that's just about the only one I could do for the rest of the year. The only way I would run it is to take the entire week to run the recce and make pace notes, which doesn't leave me with much vacation time left. But, maybe it's worth it The more I think about it, the more I want to run it. After all, John Buffum chose ONE event to drive last year, and this was it.

Cool, got a couple e-mails from people wondering why they were not in the vid. I feel bad, I wish I could put everyone in but 45-50mins of video is a lot to download. Maybe later in the week I'll do a long vid for each stage I have footage of and put it online, I have video of all the cars.

hey guys!!! great job I love the pixs and video of the grociery getter !!! We, as team Valley Tire had a blast! and even now we are still talking about how much abuse that wagon took and never flinched!!! amazing!! Thanks to all the competitors and fans who made our first weekend a sucess .If we didn't have the flat in the dust on the second to last stage we might of had a shot at a top 10 ... we had caught the 11th place Focus on the road around the 8km mark and hit a rock in the thick dust forcing us to stop on stage and change tires but all in all a great experience .We are very much looking forward to Defi in September .
P.S. if you have any more vids of the wagon I would love to see them
cheers Quig.
