Default Forester Autocross Class???

Anyone know what autocross class a forester XT would be in. Stock and modded?? If you got the forester quite a bit lower and stiffened everything up, wouldnt the low end torque make it a pretty darn god autocross car? Thanks

Interesting question. I don't think it's classed as yet. I know some SCCA Regions do not allow "SUVs" to compete. Having mod'd turbo Forresters around is going to stir this pot, methinks.

I'll have to ask my neighbor (my local Regional Tech Chief) for complete clarification, but SUV's are not allowed to run due to their height.

I've thought about it too since an XT is in our future, but I really doubt they would allow it.

There is no rollover warning sticker in Foresters, the only "SUV" that doesnt have one of those. And yes, people have autocrossed them, so they need a classing.

I would agree... it doesn't have a rollover sticker, warning, etc, as mandated *if* there were any risk of it happening on daily driving.

I'm thinking DS. Wouldn't THAT be a hoot?

Hmmmm....that WOULD be interesting!
I'm guessing you could fit a lot of tire under the XT's wheel wells. Anyone know how wide the rims are?

Technically, until there is an official ruling it will be in H-stock!!!

How do you like them apples??? Just like the H6 Outbacks that fall in there. The only subies outside the H class IIRC are the 2.5RS, SVX (G-class) and WRX (D-class), I don't even know if the STi has officially been classed to the AS yet?

Yes, the STi was classed in a Fastrack.

Can someone let me borrow their XT here in New England, there's someone in HS (National Champ) that I want to beat.

I just posted that to the NER Mail list... cannot WAIT to see the responses because some of those people on Team.net/evo list that like 'discussing' things are in my region.

Should be interesting to say the least. Buwahahaha.

(I actually am thinking of replacing the Jeep with one)

16x6.5, same as the other Foresters alloys, IIRC. Going wider than about 235 (225 is stock) will likely require a higher-offset wheel or spacers (is that legal for stock?) to avoid interfering with the spring perches unless you went with a shorter tire. Going much past 235 on a 6.5" rim probably isn't going to buy you much anyway though...

I think up to 1/4" spacers are legal in stock.

HS? I would be laughing the whole week of Nationals if this happens.

1/4 spacers and 225/50-16 A3S03s will do just fine, thankyouverymuch.

Hmm, HS is looking good right now...

KC Region does allows trucks and SUVs. Heck, I've seen a late 80s model Suburban out there before.

Would it even qualify to run as a MY04 car? I don't have my rule book here, but I thought that cars of the next model year couldn't normally run, unless the SEB makes an exception and classes them early?

The idea of a Forester beating up on the Minis does have appeal. I'm not so sure it would happen, though, but it's an interesting idea.

NOC cars are not eligible for Nationals until they are specifically classed.

2000 or 3000 lbs. Same as a WRX.

Default I vote for HS

The Forrester is NOT an SUV, it is a taller Impreza wagon...
With a healthy dose of torque.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Do you think that a slightly modded XT would go into STX or straight to prepared or mod classes?? I really like this idea, and i am thinking of trading in for the forester, but i would feel pretty sketchy about being on r-compounds in that tall of a vehicle! Thanks again.

XT is illegal for STX because it has a larger than allowed engine. STX allows 2.0L or lower turbo engines.

So does this mean that if did modding(outside of stock class mods) i would go to street mod or street prepared?

So no NOC cars are allowed? That's weird, I thought I saw and XT6 run at nationals and it's a NOC car now I think... Someone with better rulebook/skills will have to decipher it for me.

I think that NOC cars CAN compete as what happens when they throw away specific classifications as years roll on. The 3dr RX and XT6 used to be specificly classified, now they are in the Subaru NOC bin.
