Default EGT temps question

I'm tapped at the top of the tube about 3" from the motor on #3. I have a TXS-4 system ran by their unichip on a Stage IV default map. I cruise in the 1380 range, but at WOT in 4th over 6000rpm, I'll pass 1550 degrees and the temps will creep just past 1600. Once I pass 1550, I shut down.

I'm pretty sure this is abnormal. The phenomenon occurs in 4th and 5th only, and starts past 6000rpm indicated. If I dial the boost down from 17psi (what I usually run) to 14psi, the same thing happens. From what I've heard, my timing correction factor might be too retarded in that range? Anyone have any similar experiences? What are your EGTs at sustained WOT?

I'm tapped at just after the spot where #1 and #3 meet. I see barely above 1380 in 5th gear at WOT (up to 120mph and then I quit). I cruise anywhere from 1150 to 1250. Am I rich? I haven't seen mine get much past 1380 in any gear.

edit: FYI I am using Perrin Fuel Rails too, which may be keeping me on the slightly rich (and hopefully safe) side.

i have mine in the casting mark right off 1 & 3. cruising i run at 700C and under wot in any gear i max at 750C. I can easily make it go over 850C if I let do PTFB.

I'm tapped at the cast bung on the driver side. catless and no intake resinator. crusie(70-85) i see about 1350. my automoter guage is too slow to see anything higher than that when i do WOT pulls, but i don't hear any det. the most i have seen was 1450 at a track day...that involved 3rd gear and 6500RPM at times.

I'm tapped 1" from cylinder 3. The highest I've ever seen is 800C ~ 1472F. I'm running Vishnu Stage 1 with Samco hoses. Boost tops out at 1.2bar ~ 17.4psi. WOT sustained EGT's are no higher than 800C.

I am tapped where cylinder 2/4 meets, approx 2-3 inches from exhaust flange. I see 1300F in 5 th at 65-70 mph. In 4 th at redline i see approx ~1450. I have a VF30 (with uppipe & turbo back mods) running ~14.5 psi of boost. No ECU mods!

Greddy EGT gauge and sensor, on the passenger side 1,3 , I see 780C at WOT in the mid range rpms, and then at 6krpms I peak at 800C. Running 16.5psi peak, stock turbo and fuel system.

Unknown a/f ratio because I've been fuel tuning without an wideband

Unhappy

Sounds like something is definitely screwed up with my car. I was hoping it was the tapping point, but alas, it sounds like no. My probe/gauge combo is stupid fast (omori), but I think its definitely time to get this sucker diagnosed. This blows.

Thanks to those who replied.

Mine is at the top of my M2 uppipe (probably not the best place) and the most I ever see is 700C. Thats with TXS stage 2 + injen intake map, m2 uppipe and turbo back, and one step colder plugs and samcos.

I just installed my Autometer EGT gauge, and I was worried when I was seeing ~1300 at WOT.

FWIW, I'm using cnk's old unichip with a bit more mods - maybe it's time for a reflash.

BTW- I'm runnng a VDO EGT. I talked to Mark at TurboXS a few weeks ago and he said my temps were like 100-200 degrees (F) lower than what they typically see (1400-1550). I never had the EGT in when the car was stock, so I don't have lots to go on for a comparison.

My car is TXS stage 2.

I'm tapped 3" down #4, with a Greddy electronic EGT. I see ~820C at WOT with the "stock" map, but I've seen it as high as 850C. With the TXS stage2new map, I've never seen over 810, and it's typically around 790-790 at WOT. Unfortunately, my car or map are messed up, since I get dets in mid revs at or close to WOT. It's being tuned this weekend, and I'll update this post if it's still alive.

EDIT: Ooops, I guess that I'd never looked at the EGT right at the det time. It went over 860 and was still climbing when I had det and ended the run.

I have an Omori guage tapped near the casting bung on the drivers side. I can hit 1600 at WOT on full boost during track events.

I seem to recall that it took a few hours to install my EGT gauge. My probe is on the driver's side where the cylinders meet and it clears all heat shields. It's Autometer, by the way.

I haven't heard this - I've been watching the 1/3 cyl (passenger side). I thought that's where people were running the most lean?

Are there some threads that point to Stage 4 major lean problems?

I haven't studied the fuel line layout yet. What is the first cylinder to get fuel, what is the last? Also, there has been talk about the cyclinder next to the turbo tends to go because all of the heat generated.

I am running and AutoMeter EGT tapped at the casting bung on the driver's side manifold and I see 1450-1475 while cruising at 3500 RPM in 5th. I usually hit 1550-1600 while winding out 4th or 5th, upwards of 5500 RPM. I never stay in the gas long enough to see how high it will get. I am currrently running a Turbo XS Stage 2 Unichip with gutted uppipe and full Turbo XS turbo back, stock turbo, stock fuel, and mbc set at 15.5 psi.

I have VF30 with walbro hp fuel pump with Stock ECT, boost controller gutted uppipe and turbo back. At the top of 3rd (14-14.5 psi at 7000rpm up an incline) I see ~1425-1450 Max.

My probe is installed almost exactly where Dazz's is. I just centered mine in the port.
