Default Sti replica rear strut install

On my wrx i had a cusco rear strut and sold it, now regretting it didnt want to spend another $150.00 , so i bought a replica off ebay for about $38.00, its not the same quality as the cusco as far as fit and finish but it will do the same exact job but a $100 cheaper. I had to remover the seat belts on the end to get the ends of the strut bar over the top hats. Took about 30 mins, start to finish very easy to do ur self. Oh be careful of the hoses from the intercooler bottle.

finished

Would you do me a favor and measure the height from the trunk floor to the underside of the strut bar, I'd like to know if my subbox will fit. (Nice amp by the way I have the KX600.4 powering my two infinity perfect 10s!)

Default strut

I just put the front one on my car and it made a huge difference in stiffness. Drive yours a few times and let us know if the rear is worth it as well.

How do you get to the top of the rear struts?

I tried through the trunk and can't get to them

u have to take the rear seat off its like 2 bolts for the bottom and 3 for the top. it was easier if you remove the top mount for the seat belts on each side to get at the screws of the top of the struts. hope that helps.

Hey pitbul09,

Is there a reason why you removed the silver domes that went over the tops in your rear stru tower bar install?

It's just an observation. I didn't have to remove mine. I don't really know one way or the other.

I put the front bar on today in 15 mins. Where are the bolts specifically located? are they inside or from the trunk to remove the seats?

Should be two bolts at the bottom/front of the seat holding in U-shaped wires, undo those then the bottom cushion should come out, then I'm sure you can figure the rest out. Don't think the seat designs have changed too much.

yea i got one, no actually two ti sti bars! how this happened is i bought one from a member on this board from him over seas and have yet to see it! Not going to say scam yet and will give him another week but losing patience, but i then couldnt wait and bought another one from another member, so if ur interested in one, if the one from japan comes which i still believe it will (i hope) ill sell u it for exactly what i paid for it! pm me if interested.

Search ebay for either. They are all over the auctions. Type in "Sti Strut" which is what worked for me.

Anyway back on topic, I took a look and found the two bolts on the bottom of the seat. Where are the other 3?

Perhaps under the bottom after we remove the first two?

There are 2 bolts in the front of the bottom portion of the front seat. Once these are removed the bottom portion of the seat can be removed by lifting the front part up and pushing the back part down as you pull twards the front of the car. The backrest portion of the back seat has 3 bolts holding it in place. One on the left, one on the right and one in the center (closer to the left side). Remove those. The backrest portoin can be removed by swinging the bottom of if away from the body of the car a few inches and lifting up. The top part of the back rest is held in by 3 hooks and these are what you have to clear. The center one is a pain in the ass. Remove the seatbelt retractor or you will be having a fun time trying to get one of the three bolts out. When you retighten the seatbelt retractor use 22 ft. lb. The nuts that hold the strut bars in placed use 14.5 ft. lb. Good luck.

Here is my problem. I was able to get pink rings over the strut fine but when I got to the point of adding the bar itself the holes would not line up. See pictures. I tried loosening the pink sections and that does not help. Any other solutions? I was going to just get a smaller bolt and tread it through and tighten it with a nut. Think that will be ok?

Damn Screw why won't you just go in your hole!

Here's the gig. take all nuts off the pink things. Put the nut that is furtherest away from the center of the car on, but just so it catches a few threads. Put on one end of the bar and finger thighten that nut. Put the other bar up and the holes will still not line up. Now get a big freaken screw drive and place it in the space between the pink ends and the bar and pry. Push bolt through and finger tighten. Put the rest of the nuts in the strut top and tighten them then tighten the nuts for the bar ends.
