Lightbulb New STI in NYC area

I just got my new STI last week after experiencing both the good and bad of car salesmen.
First, after calling several times to make sure they have an STI in stock, I met with a salesman named Larry (back flash from Threeís Company...) from Auto Network Subaru in Queens. As I got into the dealership, they pulled the ol' bait & switch: another guy pretended to have just bought the STI for 3K over MSRP and Larry started convincing me I should outbid him: "lets put it this way, for 38 Gs its yours".
Then I went into Town Motor Car in Englewood, NJ and met with a guy named Rich. They traded my old WRX and for a new Silver STI in a day (at MSRP). He even bothered calling today (I got the car on Wednesday) to make sure everything is OK. Good job!
I hope this helps to anyone looking for an STI in the NYC area.

Anyway Iím getting my Pioneer NAV-SYS910DVD system this week and will post pictures once its installed. I am quite psyched about burning all my music onto one DVD as mp3, and not having to deal with all the CDs.

I actually work in Stamford. Thats a 40 mile drive each way every day. My WRX had 20k on it when I traded it in (less then one year old).
Lets do a meet on this or next weekend.

If you do a meet next weekend, I'll most likely have my STi.

Got the VIN# today and will try to get insurance going. Is it ok if I just put down a WRX for the Car since they dont list the STi?

how about Ft. totten? Its right off the Throggs neck bridge/cross island expressway has a good sized parking lot. I think meeting in manhattan may not be the best idea. so an outer boro would be better.

How much $$$ and can it really play DVDs with MP3s on them, or just CDs with MP3s?

Awesome setup either way.... If it is DVD MP3 compatable, how many MP3 will fit on a DVD??? Too lazy to do the math, but that would be a lot...

Nice Ride...

$1,900 from a shop on eBay

I sure as hell hope it will play mp3 from DVD.

It requires PHD in math to do this , but I'll try to simplify:
DVD = 4.7G
mp3 (acceptable quality) is about 1M per minute
A song is about 4 min in average
4700 / 4 =~ 1200 songs !!!

Now, if you are still conscious:
A CD has about 700M on it (about 175 songs)
A dvd would be equivalent to about 6.5 mp3 CDs or about 55 music CDs (allthough you are giving up on quality)

Anyway, I will let you know if it works when I get and install it

Picking up my STi this week.

I'm going to put a computer in my car which rocks everything mentioned above.

Too bad it's not going to be installed until later on.

Having a 60GB hard drive is awesome.

Specs?

Like what does a computer in a car do?

Forget that DVD idea, use a Carputer/CarPC

I'll show you more at the meet. My Honda Prelude was done up with it nicely. Had 8.4" Touchscreen. What do you mean specs?

Well I had GPS Navigation that spoke to me and had voice recognition.

Also had 3000 mp3s in my car. 12 gigs worth??

Have Divx movies. And eventually withthe STi I will hook up the computer to the car, and have it monitor boost etc...

LESLIEx317537, is this technology commercially available?
The concept is amazing: hook up everything to one main system, but from my search on the web it looks like someone cooking a project in their parents garage... how stable is the technology?
You will need a runtime OS on this thing, is it usind CE, Symbian or something similar? Also, how much does it cost? Can you provide more details, links?
Thanks

Default Town Motors

Picked up my STi yesterday,
Rich J. - Great Guy
Town Motors, since they are also a Porsche/Audi dealer they treat you like a human being, not a number.

They are selling MSRP

Nice Service dept. building.

Congrats WReX'N. I'm hopefully picking up mine on Tuesday if all goes well.

dorongo,

Very sooon this CarPC technology will be utilized everywhere. I'm a Pioneer of this movement which I think is the greatest thing to happen in a while.

So far I have made 5 other people build CarPC's and they are all hooked.

How stable is the technology? - Depends on which board and chip you use. If eveything is done properly, it should be able to run very critical applications. But why would you in your car? It's not a office server running stock or banking programs.

Too bad my web site is down and I'm so lazy I didn't pay. I would love to show you my setup I had , and I'll document my STI CarPC install.

For real good info where I learned everything - goto www.mp3car.com .

I use Windows XP with a program they are working on called Media Engine http://www.mediaengine.org/ .

If anyone or you decide on this project, you will enjoy it.

Yes it is a home garage project, but some home garage projects are the best and not available at stores.

Some people offered me 3000 to install one.

Wow this weekend is going to be real long, and Tuesday at work is going to be even longer. Maybe I can leave a little early.
