Default tow hitch install

tow hitch - 280 from irvine subaru

irvine wanted 75 for the install, timmons in long beach wanted 130.

install took aproximately 20 minutes. looks great! though i'm having fitment issues w/ my 3" exhaust.

There seems to be two different tow hitches made for the baja. The only reason i say this is becuase the instructions made it blatently clear that it was for the "late model 2003 subaru baja" what that means i have no idea... basically check your vin# it says for all vin#'s after:
4S4BT61C236102436

Even the supplied trailer harness is a breaze to install.

basically my point is for all you people to realize what a rip off some dealer services can be (above example, oil changes, brake pad replacment) save yourself the money and spend the day at the beach or whatnot.

<-----will be looking into motorcycle trailers now!

Very interesting indeed. Yeah, I'd like to know what the difference is too.

I'm moving and need to tow my motorcycle. I was afraid that the subaru hitch might be complex, but your words reassure me! I'll do the install myself. =-)

Can I leave the ball on? Does it interfere with the gate or license plate?

I haven't tried it but the manual says having the ball on with the gate down is a no-no.
Thing is that the license plate holder will hit the ball. And one shan't drive w/o they're plate exposed (even though pickup dirvers do it all the time)

3/4 pin it is then... as you tighten it down with the lock washer it gets very firm soo no worries there. as far as with the gate down it appears you can do it however i'm not sure how much clearence there is between the top of the hitch and the bed door. it seems to be enough to slip the trailer hitch on and have some room but we'll see next monday.
