JDM headlight install
I get mine tommorow and need to know how to install these without a harness. If someone could tell me that would be awesome.

Are you handy with a soldering iron? I have some of the info here, which I wrote down when my brother and I soldered all my connections recently. You'll need some wire (I recommend two different colors so you can easily distinguish hot from ground in the future) and two 9005 connectors (available at any auto parts store), solder, and heatshrink or quality electrical tape.
I don't have the wire colors for the driver's side stock harness written down, so I'll have to dig for them or hope someone else posts. Here are the wires in the passenger side stock harness (you'll want to cut away the plastic sheath and pull back all the tape): Passenger side harness Blue/White = ground Yellow/Red = low beam Red = high beam Driver's side harness Blue/Red = ground Yellow/Red = low beam Red = high beam On the headlight assembly, you'll have two wires going into the low beam (if the JDM's are the same as the EDM's)... Green = ground Black = hot For the high beam, once you snap the 9005 connector that you bought into place, you'll have two wires dangling off it. Looking straight down at the back of the headlight, standing at the front of the car, the wire closest to the passenger side is ground, the wire closest to the driver's side is hot. That should give you enough to go on...four wires total need to be soldered onto the stock harness...one low beam, one high beam, two grounds. Joel Last edited by Zola; 07-18-2003 at 05:38 PM. |

So basically I just have to take the wires and connect them to the headlight bulb (for the low beam) and just wrap the end around the metal of the bulb?

yep. the wirehareness is only there to keep your factory connectors (which i think is useless after you install the JDM/EDM lights because they are so beautiful you wont go back anyway) and to keep the ease of installation.
you dont need the harness and just follow zola's instructions. |

The "grounds" in the factory harnesses are actually common positives, and the low and high beam wires are switched grounds. Just a technicality.

If you're not comfortable with that, there are a couple different styles of wire taps that you could rig up as well. Not as elegant a solution, but it should work. |
