Default Evo Spankin!

Up here BFE N. California, we have legal grudge-match drags (no times) for free put on by the cops on the local drag strip Saturday nights. Last night I went out with my 2000 mile STi to try and kick some @$$.

A guy started to walk up to me asking if I was the one with the STi and replied that I did. He said he brought his 1200 mile Evo and wasn't going to run it unless there was an STi to run against. I said cool, lets see if all of the magazines were right.

Boy were they right! I raced him two times and the outcome was exactly the same: 1st gear was pretty much dead even with me inches in front. In 2nd gear the Evo started to inch a little bringing us almost dead even again. 3rd was strong with me inching again, but 4th gear is where it all ended about 1.5 car lengths in front. And I had to shift into 5th to finish the 1/4 at clost to 107 every time!

The best part about all of this was that the second run, I had the Evo drivers girlfriend in the car with me cause she wanted to see how much faster the STi was. When I was about to shift into 4th I said, "this is where I took him last time" and I totally pulled away in 4th gear.

Unfortunately there were no times last night but it was totaly worth it to do some Evo, Stang, Hybrid, and Vishnu Stage 0&1 WRX spankin!

All hail the power of the STi! Now if I can get the launching down.

Sweet
I would love to have a stock vs stock battle with an EVO.

What even better is you still beat him with an extra 100lbs in the car. That impressive.

MAYBE: because she has been riding in an EVO for a few weeks and her BF and maybe her said lets check it out and see if it feels different. Why does someone riding in someones car make it BS?

I smell BS...

no 300 horse STi could ever beat a 271 horse EVO. Thats impossible. Besides, the EVOs clutch woulda grenaded and I woulda heard that from here... this race never even took place.

I hear ya on the girlfriend wanting a ride. I was at the local Maine AutoX today (not racing, too much to drink last night, so I didn't get there until noon) there were 2 STi's running, one blue/silver with used car dealer plates (let's hope that it doesn't show up for sale tomorrow), the other STi was a silver/silver with temp. NH tags, and one silver EVO running with temp tags and 500 miles. The guy in the silver EVO pulled up behind me as soon as I pulled in, there was a cute girl in the passenger seat, we exchanged hellos and he said he wanted to talk after he had his run. On his second run, a different girl got out of the car with a big grin on her face. I asked how it was being a passenger she said she always wanted to ride in a EVO it was great, then she asked who's Red EVO that was, said it was mine and she asked if she could take some pics. The silver EVO driver only had the car since tuesday and his previous ride was a Cherokee so I wasn't judging the EVO on his runs, but the STi's were mighty impressive. Who knew my new car would get groupies

By the way, we all know the STi has more power, and after third you should be pulling away pretty well, so how come your story is regarded as spanking an EVO?

what are you smoking? that's odd, because i have beaten my friend's evo pretty much everytime we have raced, the only time he beat me, i tried to launch different and bogged.. race from a roll and it is all over for the evo..(if it's stock at least)

no evo bashing here either.. i like the evo, it is a sweet car.. i almost bought one...

Not to high jack the post, but I've found subbie driver's with the exception of the subbie rally guys at the AutoX in Augusta a few weeks back to be really cool about the EVO. I've always loved subbie's since the day I picked up my 2.5RS and ordered an STi on 1/9/03, the only way I ended up with an EVO is no dealer would let me test drive the STi.

I think it's great that we've got two cars so similar to compete, but it all boils down to that they are both great cars, and as soon as the tuners have a little more time with the STi the modifying wars will be fun as well.

hmmmmm... better check with the doc, a few DNA sarcasm recognition peptides are missing or something. Maybe they can fix that.
