Default Godspeed downpipe and GReddy EVO

put in the godspeed downpipe and greddy evo i got from dan (god) in yesterday. the greddy evo is supposed to be the quietest exhaust next to stock, and its a straight through design with 2 resonators. some impressions-

power:
torque is a little better down low, turbo spools up maybe a couple hundred rpms quicker. nothing too noticeable down low...but when the turbo kicks in...BAM. holy crap. can you say it PUUUUUULLLS?

sound:
VERY quiet at idle. same loudness as my stock exhaust which had 2000 miles. when you rev it, it rumbles. that sound is very intoxicating. most people not in the know will think its a much bigger engine with more cylinders. when on the highway, the sound is there, and people are going to run and hide. haha.

issues:
according to the defi boost gauge, i read a smidge over 1.2 bar in 3rd gear only. so basically...1.05bar in 1st, 1.11bar in 2nd, 1.2bar in 3rd, 1.1bar in 4th, 5th and 6th. kind of weird. it doesnt always boost to 1.2bar in 3rd, only sometimes. i dont plan on driving without engine management for too long (getting it as soon as it comes out), so im not worried too much. i went driving to look for newly found detonation, and still came up dry. made WOT runs in 3rd, 4th and 5th around 3-5k rpms, and still nothing. so im still safe in that respect. another issue i had was that the exhaust tip rests on the bumper...and it has started to melt the bottom part of it. im thinking of cutting half of both of the exhaust hangers till i can find something that will work. hopefully that will allow it to sag down a little more so that its not a problem. also, the midpipe from the greddy hangs pretty low, and i think ive scraped it a couple times already on my friends street that is getting torn up for contruction. so its either drive over the 3" high manholes and mess up the alignment, or drive in the middle of them and scrape the exhaust. stupid chicago streets.

all in all, its a beautiful exhaust that sounds amazing. if it didnt scrape and melt my bumper a little, it would be 5/5, but as it is its a 4.5/5.

...cant wait till cobb releases a reflash for the STi. you can tell with the right management, its going to unleash a LOT of power from these 2 mods (exhaust and intake).

almost forgot the stuff youve been waiting for- PICS.

...so Greddy EVO is the quietest!?

Thats good to know, since I am planning to change the exhaust, but I don't want anything abnoxiosly loud, and from the exhausts I've been hearing on various WRX's, they all seem too loud for my taste. Something a tad over stock would be great and from your review it seems as if the GE is definitely worth looking at.

BTW, good review. I also want a downpipe, but I will wait a bit too see what else is in the woodworks...ECU's etc...ands go from there. I am also considering a downpipe thats separated, such as the Perin...the theory sound vaild, I would just like to know how much a separated downpipe gives over a non.

Did you have a shop do the exhaust install? What does GReddy say about the fit/rubbing issue? I've always thought their stuff is well made (fit and finish) for its intended use. Could it just be an adjustment/installation issue?

Sorry for all the questions. Hope it all works out.

i had a shop do it, since i dont have a lift, and no compressor tools...so i figured what the heck i might as well just have someone do it. i was there the whole time watching, so it was cool. other people have had the same rubbing problem...cant find what they did to fix it though. but otherwise, it is very well made. a little heavy, though.

nope, no CELs...since the Godspeed downpipe does NOT throw CELs...

I'd begging, BEGGING for sound of the exhaust. The quietness of the exhaust system on my STi is currently my only complaint.

Does it sound more like a WRX with an after market exhaust or a RS? either way I'm wishing for a wav of the sound.

the Godspeed downpipe replaces the pipes for cat #1 and 2. you can use this downpipe and keep everything else stock, yes.

Who did the install for you? Don't cut the hangars for the exhaust, all you have to do is bend the hangars at a real small angle, unoticeable. Don't cut anything. The installers did not tell you the tip could touch the bumper? Let me know what happens, I spaced mine about 1.5 centimeters down from the bumper.

My nur spec touring from godspeed fit the same way, I fixed it by just getting longer hangers for the muffler, it dropped everything about a half inch and clearance was fine. Muffler didnt bang around either.

The Blitz Touring does sit too high. The Greddy is always a perfect fit. Perhaps you just need to loosen everything up and adjustit and retighten. If not just bend hangers ever so slightly to solve the problem but that's very unusual. We install MANY Godspeed downpipe/Greddy combos here and never see them that close to the bumper.

Anybody tried the GReddy SP? The reason I ask is that all the current GReddy exhausts start to rust after a year or two, but they're releasing a new stainless SP2, which I need since Chicago winters can dissolve your car before your eyes.

On another note, I just dyno'd my car and got my best pull on the third run 281.1hp, this was on dynapack dyno. Installed so far is Godspeed downpipe, GReddy Evo exhaust, blitz SUS filter all from Dan at Godspeed.
