Talking Dealer drowning in its greed

Just be patient and boycott that STI dealer wanting to charge $3,000 over MSRP for a freakin radio. Before the STI was announced I had a order for an EVO 8. When they arrived in March I was informed of the very reasonable $5,000 markup the car warranted. That dealer had 3 back back then and when I stopped by today (Sunday) out of curiousity, I counted 5 EVOs on the showroom floor. I can't wait until tomorrow to call and see how much they are selling them for under MSRP!

Some people dont really have subaru dealerships all around them like some of us. That may be an issue.

Carr Subaru in Beaverton Oregon has an $8000 market adjustment to the STi. They have 6 on the lot. Down the street at Beaverton Mitsubishi pick your Evo color at $29,000 or less out the door. That was Saturday (7/19).

Why would anybody want an EvO? Imagine if the STI was boosting the same 19.5 lbs. that the EVO does.

Do you think there would be any room for comparison?

In addition, the EVO is cheap looking on the inside despite its Recaro seats and optional sunroof. The STI instrument cluster rocks with its digital display.

And who wants a Mitsubishi anyway, especially one that is powered by an Eclipse inspired engine. Not me.

As for the dealer mark up, tell them that you are a serious buyer and if they want to talk with their manager about selling it at MSRP to a serious buyer like yourself, then to call you. Give them your number and tell them that you will be calling other dealerships and expect to have one within two days.

Go to Subaru.com and call all the dealerships in your state and give them the same speech. Once you are done with your state, move to surrounding states, but tell them you are calling from out of their dealer territory. I did this and within twenty four hours, I had my STI. While I did have to fly and get picked up by the dealership at the airport and drive the car home, the cost of the ticket was inexpensive ($147), the break-in was one of the best I could give a car, and it was a very cool experience.

I still have dealerships calling me 3 weeks later, telling me they have the color I want and that they are willing to sell me it at MSRP. I even had one dealership offer me $500 below MSRP.

The point is if you want an STI bad enough and you do not want to pay a mark up on the price, you can get it.

Kevin

Talking STi price paid

Anyone who pays thousands over MSRP isn't negotiating hard enough. I just put my deposit on a Blue STi from Subaru in Renton, WA and got a final price of $32,000 even. Wait till the end of the month, know what you want, know what you'll pay, and go get it !!!

beaverton is just as much of a bunch of pricks as Carr. I went to buy a EVo and the dude didn't even want to sit down to talk when I offered MSRP. Never mind they had a $3K markup on a abused Marauder on the lot... when they were selling at invoice + full $3K rebate off everywhere else!!

So I got a 03 Wagon that day....

And now I have a 04 STi. I guess I should thank them because I doubt I'd own a STi if I got an evo then.

I imagine a loud bang followed by chunks of metal exiting the engine bay. Read more here.

Was that the price of the speeding ticket or the airline ticket?

An STi at 19.5 lbs of boost is just like an STi an 15lbs of boost...it just runs really rich, and looses about 3 hp at the wheels.
