Default Bought the Gold warranty. Was it a good move if I plan on keeping STi stock?

Tonight, I met with the business manager and did most of the paperwork.

I got the autodimming mirror and compass and also bought the Gold warranty for 1200 buks.

I got the car for MSRP and figured it would come in handy down the road. I own a Prelude and Honda's are known for realiablity, but mine, man did I have tons of problems.

Includes emergency roadside etc...

Gold is 6 years 80,000 miles.

Any thoughts? I pay 20 buks more a month for it.

Interesting you bought this up....
I was at a Subu dealer last night negotiating an STI and he asked if I was planning on modifying it. Obviously I said yes, and he said it would void the warantee. I have to wait for my car until the first week or two in august, but I plan on either no warantee or the minimum they offer, haven't decided yet.

I currently have a AAA warantee on my 2.5rs which covers up to 100,000 miles and virtually mimics the factory warantee, however you can get the work done at a private shop (then subaru doesn't have to know what performance parts you have on it). I think I may go with this warantee again so I can do what I want with the STI. Just make sure you are friends with your mechanic, so he doesn't reveal any clues to AAA that your car is modified, that would void the warantee as well. Basically a 'wink' 'wink' deal with my mechanic. the AAA warantee is sweet, you only pay a small deductible each time you get something done, and it covers a lot of stuff (the platinum plan ~$1200/100,000 miles). The mechanic just calls in to AAA and tells the part number replaced, voila, you have a warantee. I dig it.

Does installing gauges like Boost gauges and temp gauages void the gold warranty?

Definitely should not void the warantee, not a performance altering upgrade. Always ask the dealer if you are not sure before you do anything with a factory warantee. They like to raise hell if they didn't install it, etc...

I would have a serious problem with subaru if I installed a few guages and the warantee got voided, i wouldn't imagine that it would though.

Mods only void the warentee if Subaru (or anyone) can prove that the mod caused the problem. Ie: with an aftermarket exhaust, Subaru can claim that the car wasn't designed to take the extra couple hp, and thus the warentee is void. They couldn't claim the same for you installing a boost guage. Now if your electrical system get fried from one, they may have a case.

Default Aftermarket Gauges

Aftermarket gauges usually use a port that connects at the oil filter to measure Oil pressure and Oil temperature. Has anyone had a case of Subaru giving them a hard time on that affecting oil flow? If they think a Concave instead of Convex design significantly affects the flow of oil in the STi filter.... why not an aftermarket sandwich?

(I'm asking because I want aftermarket gauges, not to play devil's advocate.)

He probably has a $50 or $100 deductible.

BTW...Mods will not void your Subaru extended warranty. Afterall, they didn't void out my warranty. You just have to be careful with what you mod. An intake here, and exhaust there will not void it but a flywheel or some cams might. Also, do all your work at a mod friendly dealership. That's what I did.

Default warr

Just more FYI - The entire warr doesnt void if you put on an exhaust system...just that portion of the warr.

For example, if you mod the exhaust, the protection on the wheels, wheel bearings, steering, window stuff, A/C, seats, locks, ABS, etc. etc. etc. isnt voided.

Wow.....I must have gotten a hell of a deal then

$1349 - the 100k mile extended warranty
$0 Deduct.....rental car, trip interruption, roadside....the whole shabang. I'm not recalling the year limit, but it's the bigger 100k warranty.

Oh....and no turbo surcharge. Not sure why some get charged that and some don't.

Compared to this?

I'd say it's a deal. And considering dealer cost....all of us who paid MSRP paid well over dealer cost there as well. It's called profit....most retail places like profit.

Where do you find this warranty, I can't seem to find it anywhere in the AAA web site.
