Default Where to buy OEM parts?

Sorry, this is mildly off topic, but I am looking for OEM parts for my STI. Are there any online places to buy from? Local dealer wants an arm, leg, and left nut for oxygen sensor, gaskets, and spare bolts.

Thanks

Just get the part numbers from the dealer and order it via the web site.

The parts guy at your dealer is extremely unlikely to tell you what the part numbers are, for this very reason.

Yeah, I make it a point not to buy from dealers who won't disclose part numbers. I had a lot of problems with the Honda dealers who did this. Very annoying.

Let's consider a real-life scenario. You're looking to replace your STi's front A/F sensor. You've found a dealer that will give you the part number, 22641AA211, and he tells you the price is $220. Now what should you do? Do you buy that part for $220 from this dealer because he's a good guy for giving you the part number? Or, now that you have a part number, do you shop that part number around on the various Subaru dealer internet sites that have a "Search by Part Number" feature to see whether you can find a better price, like $152.36 plus shipping at http://www.subaruparts.com/cart/?pn=22641AA211?

Parts counter guys suspect most folks will do the latter.

I can't wait 4-10 business days, so I gladly pay the part counters guy and remind him how much I would appreciate it if he orders it asap.

I understand why some dealers don't give out part numbers, but it is a pretty stupid business tactic--provide good service and a reasonable price and internet stores won't be an issue.

By the way, there are only 9 front O2 sensors in the entire country. I hope there weren't 9 other idiots (like me) who changed their headers and broke the O2 sensors over the last weekend.

I agree, if they charged more reasonable prices, they wouldn't have to worry about the problem.

But...in all fairness, the online places should let you look up the part number yourself.

subaruparts.com has a parts look up interface by year model bodystyle.

You may have to hack the form data to get 2004 sti to show up but it's there.

how do you hack the form data to get the STi parts to show up?

I'd like to look up STi brake pads, for instance.

Thanks.

Obviously, you call your nearest Subaru dealership's parts departement. Ask for part number 10100BK600.

I merely remembered that this part number was mentioned in the STi forum a few months ago and looked it up by doing a search.
