Post WRX in another rally game

Besides GT3, Sony has a game being developed that's strictly about the WRC!

"Sony's "other" big racer this year, is World Rally Championship. Most racing titles look like crap when put side-by-side with Gran Turismo 3, but WRC seems to hold its own. The game is definitely bordering on photorealistic at this point, judging by the newly released images.

WRC is officially licensed product, features real cars and real drivers, 106 tracks, and 'go anywhere' race environments."

Yuk...ive seen and PLAYED a WAY better looking rally game for the X-Box, and it is only at about 45% complete.

Those carmodels are preaty lacking, and the PS2's rough endering is VERY evident. The textures are preaty washed out too. THere isnt even any detail on the drivers faces. And the environmental effects look like an afterthought.

The game currently being developed for X-Box hasnt been displayed yet, becuase David Richards (yes our beloved SWRT boss), sold the official rights of the 2001 WRC to Sony for this game. Which is permitting MS from using any likness of real WR Cars in their game. Which means no screenhot of it yet. But beleive me, its so far beyong this POS that there is no comparison.

X-Box owns you!

microsoft sux.

big coporate bully and the previous post denigrating the competitor only goes to prove that... with nothing to back up their claims.

Yes the back window is smashed out. There are other picts on that site that show other cars with even more damage.

As for the Xbox,... I'm sure it's a great piece of hardware, but it's getting second-tier titles from all the third party developers so far (except for the ones MS bought). No thanks, I'll stick with the PS2 for now. GT3, MGS2, FFX, and this WRC game are reason enough. If you need to see more just go to IGN.

Buck-O:
The images you are referring to are downsized and highly compressed JPGs, weighing in at about 20K each. Of course they look rough and washed out. Anyway, it's really hard to tell anything about a game from a still. Why not wait until they have a finished product before condemning it?

Are you guys serious? I'm a game reviewer, and have been for about 5 years now, and I can honestly say no console has had more promise than the X-Box has now. Just talking to the guys in charge there (J. Allard, etc.) gives you a good feeling about this console. You can tell they're big gamers and just want to make a console they'll want to buy, and they've succeeded.

I, for one, can't wait for this one

-tim

p.s. How come nobody's mentioned the GameCube yet in this discussion...? Heh heh... oh yeah...

I don't care how into gaming J.Allard and Seamus are. I haven't seen anything for the Xbox that makes me NEED it. I got to see the Xbox demoed by Seamus at last years E3 and he's a totally sharp, smart guy. They've also done a lot of developer relations in a short amount of time. But that still doesn't mean the Xbox is a must have system.

Nobody's mentioned the GameCube, but I'd take one over the XBox any day. It may not have the power of the Xbox but Nintendo has Miyamoto, and I prefer gameplay over graphics.

What's do you see that's so "promising" about the Xbox? The first rate hardware? Or the second-tier titles?

Hrm,... I could have Tony Hawk 3 on the PS2 or I could choose Tony Hawk 2 on the Xbox. I know where my money's going.

Well now there's two games I want on the PS2... still haven't bought one because neither are out. Wipeout4 and this new rally game.

No GT3 you say? As pretty as it is, they utterly BUTCHERED the actual racing aspect of it in GT2... mario kart64 style AI makes for not a fun race.

X-box? nothankyouverymuch. If I want to play PC games... I'll buy them for the PC. Sony and Nintendo still have the Japanese/European developer connections which pump out my favourite games.

Game Cube is going to be a sleeper hit. I think it will do REALLY well (mostly because of the first-party titles from Nintendo, Rare, etc.)

X-Box will do ok, but I'll be getting a Game Cube before I get an X-Box. The X-Box will FLOP in Japan. This may cause some of the Japansese developers to switch their efforts to programming games for Nintendo & Sony.

Microsoft-Schmicrosoft. Give me GT3 A-Spec, WRC PS2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy, etc. I love my PS2 and I'll give the Game Cube an honest chance (and the GameBoy Advance) ... I'll wait to see what kind of support Micro$oft gets ...

I've been to E3 the past two days, and I have played both WRC and GT3 hands-on. WRC has promise, and I have taken pics with my camera, but GT3 with the Logitech Force Feedback steering wheel they are launching along side it on July 10 is F***ing AWESOME. I have not played a better racing game in my life. Car models are absolutely amazing and gameplay is top notch. Now everyone should know why they have delayed GT3 for so long. Go out and Pre-order it now! I plan on getting both titles anyways.

Oh yeah, and GAMECUBE is gonna walk all over X-Box in November of this year. My god, how good did all the gamecube games look and play. X-Box looked and played like a bunch of PC titles. November 5th, Gamecube arrives, November 8th, X-Box is released. God I am gonna be broke in November!

I hope the X box flops. Just another case of Bill Gates thinking he can throw a whole bunch of money at something and dominate the marketplace except Sony isn't some small company he can bully around. Working with MS products pays my bills but I certainly don't want my console to run an MS operating system.
Sony put out a great system with the PS1 and supported it for a long time with excellent titles made for mature adults. This can't be said for the others. Sony gets my money as I think they earned the priveledge. Yeah the PS2 has had a slow start but just wait.

Hahaha, i love how all you guys are SOOOOOO hell bent on systems youve NEVER even touched.

That really humors me.

The GameCube will be a wash...wow, look at all these nintendo games ive seen before...OMFG!!! A MARIO GAME!!! NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE!!!

Come on now...

I guarentee that all of you who say the X-Box is a peice of sht will buy one once its released. Your not involved with the development process, and you have no idea whats being developed. Have you seen Halo yet? PS2 couldent run Halo if it tired. THe X-Box is a phenominal peice of hardware. And will be the most powerful game system ever created. Will it do well in Japan, probibly not...but you know what, i dont live in Japan. Ever heard of the Turbo Graphics 16? Or the PC engine? Well they where some of the biggest systems in Japan, but they never really took of here in the US, and int eh PC engiens case, never saw the light of day. The X-Box will sell well, and you cant judge it bassed on MS's OS sales. Two totally differnt things. And i think once you all see the X-Box first hand, you will have to put your foot in your mouth.

And trust me its not the image compresion that makes those shots look like ass. The PS2 renders blocky. It doenst have the video memoery buffer to render at a higher resolution. Plus it cant anti-alias, it doenst have a T&L engine, and its general BS.

Gamecube has a decent hardware setup, but unfortunatly, the "Big N" has a history of giving false specs, and never delivering what they say they will. Dont beleive me...N64, need i say more?

GameCube will turn into a PokeMon station withen a year. Their games will be more of the same nintendo rehashes that we have all come to know, and play over and over and over again. And when Nintendo still charges $50+ for their propritary data format, and im slapping down $30 for my X-Box games...im sure you wont be so willing to dismiss the X-Box.

Just wait and you will see what happens. Gamecube will fail, PS2 will still ahve its groupy "Sony makes the best stuff in the world" crowd. And the X-Box will start to gather a folowing. Its guarenteed to happen.

So all you sceptics put your money and the table. The X-Box will make you its bitch.

SACTOWNREXMAN: bite my ass, when youve been involved in the technology industry as long as i have, and have as much first hand knowledge as i have, and have worked on tuning as many cars as i have. Then you will have room to talk, and dispute my claims. Untill then...shut it.

Save your money and get an X-Box. The world's greatest console rally game - Colin McCrae 2 is getting revamped as Colin McRae-X. CMR2 rules over any rally game on any console by far.
