Default Sutton Subaru Central Georgia Subaru Meet - All invited

*Update* 8/24/03 - Ron at Sutton met with Subaru Represenatives and talked about the meet and we now oficially have Subaru Support. It was decided that the event would be a road rally winding in and out of Central Georgia's backroads. Ron said he can guarentee that EVERY PARTICIPANT would walk away with some sort of doorprize. I am looking into having T-shirts made for the event as well.

Sutton Subaru's phone number:
478-471-6876 - ask for Ron in Service. If you can't get ahold of him. I'm sure someone else will be happy to give you directions. Jay Davis the sales manager has been very helpful.

DIRECTIONS TO SUTTON SUBARU (from Ron)
directions to Sutton Subaru are very easy. No matter which direction you are coming into Macon, just get on I-75 & we are at exit # 169 Arkwright Rd. Go west(left if your going north-right if your going south) & we are surrounded by Chevron, Chick-fil-A, Hooters & Burger King. Anyone looking to stay overnight friday, we have a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Motel 8, Travel Lodge &
about 10 more within 5 miles of our dealership. We will be giving away $10.00 gas coupons from Chevron along with all the stuff I can beg or steal from Subaru & vendors. Everything of course
will be free to all I have 70 t-shirts being printed (35large 35 Xlarge). We have some good ole GA back roads mapped out and we're open for any last minute ideas. SeeeeeeYaaaa SAT!!!!!
Thanks, Ron.

After hearing many of you express an interest in having the meet on - SEPTEMBER 6 We have chosen that as the OFFICIAL DATE .

Meet will begin at NOON. 1st car leaving on rally @ 1 p.m.

This won't be like an SCCA santioned RR, but similar in idea . . .

Each team will get a map to one destination - Once arriving at that destination they will recieve another set of directions - We haven't decided how many "Checkpoints" we want, but you get the idea. The team with the time closest to the actual set driving time will win a prize...

Cool, will the maps include non explicit directions...something like "Turn right at the wet road" when the road is really called something like River Road? I participated in a Road Rally that was crazy like that a few years ago, it was a blast.

Heh, that's a pretty good idea.

Sounds pretty good. Would we have co-drivers (navigators) or is it just individuals? What kind of doorprizes?

Edit: nevermind, you did mention "teams."

A Road rally is a timed event based on the speed limit.
If you had to go 10 miles on a road that has a speed limit of 35 mph then they will put a time down of 5:50 minutes and seconds. that will not include stops or turns so you have to calculate your time to each point. Speed up or slow down as needed to get to the check point as close to the correct time as possible. The team with the closest time above the exact time is the weiner. Too fast and you get penalized.

Thats it in a brief statement. More details will follow from our Subaru friends. Yeee Haa!!

Whoa... if that is actually what you're doing, you are going to need to close some roads: You just described a ProRally.

Now, a proper road rally will ASSIGN you a speed on each section. Getting to the checkpoint early is just as bad as getting there late: speeding doesn't help you. (I've been competing in both kinds for five years.)

A "first team back" type of event would be a huge insurance problem and SOA would be wide open for litigation... Trust me, a road rally will go over much better.

This will be a road rally. With road rally rules...

I'll edit my description of the event.

Those with the closest times to the set time will win... Thanks for clearing that up.

Ahhh, cool. Having people show up with the wrong expectations to these types of things can cause problems.

Now the next question: how much of the rally will be paved, and how much unpaved?
