Default Turbo upgrade options

As i went to a smaller displacement (2.2) i noticed that the spool up on my T3/T4 is a lot slower than on the 2.5L, and it makes sense, less displacement = less exhaust gases.

My question is, since i am still a n00b in the turbo domain:

What are my options if i am looking for a lower rpm spool? which turbos have a reputation of having really short spool up times.

I don't intend on running more than 20psi, if i ever even get that high.

hope the questions makes sense.

thanks for any knowledgeful info.

if you have the money i would recommend something like a GT30R, i think that would be sweet. Heard great things about them, should spool much faster and hold all the boost you need.

Otherwise if you are using up and downpipes for the t3/t4 im not sure there is too much that will just bolt up to that. You could switch over a wrx setup and go with one of the IHI turbos.

I don't know what you're running for an exhaust, but a more freely-flowing exhaust will spool the same turbo lower. Whether it's "lower enough" is the question, I suppose...

This is true. A big fat downpipe should help things. What you really should do is go to a turbo specialist and have your current turbo retrimmed for the smaller displacement. This would be very effective and affordable.

I like that idea, the downpipe is already 2.5", i don't wanna loose too much torque.

I'm in the same boat (2.2T shortblock). (And I don't mean to hijack, but I'm sure we can learn a lot here).

What turbos WILL bolt right up the the hybrid T3/T04? I've heard only about the GT25? Antone know if this is true?

The T3T4 is fine. Just talk to a professional that specs turbos for a living. This person will best be able to help you decide what turbo you need for your requirements.
