Angry More window problems

Has anyone had a problem with their windows getting repeated scratchs in the glass? I have had multiple problems over the 2 years I have had my RS with all four windows getting scratched on both the outside & inside. It started the first week I got my RS!!
SOA has replaced & adjusted the windows, rollers, and felt, along with adjusting the doors too. My windows are tinted & I have had to have the tint re-done 3 times now.

What is up with this?? Ideas?? HELP!!

I'm not sure that the problem is - But i have the same problem. And i had it in my previous car, and since it was a piece of junk i didnt really bothered - in 2 years of driving like that the window god owfully scratched. My 95 legacy rs has several very small scratches on the outside of the drivers window - so i just try not to use it until i find the soultion for it. Moreover if i bring drivers window sall the way down - the windows inside the doors is not being hold properly... it sort of shaters on even small bumps - this is ver annoying - as well I cant listed to the music with window all the way down cos of this shattering.... wonder how to fix it.

huh. I get some marks from dirt / mud smeared on the weatherstripping when I roll the windows down, it smears crud all the way up the window, but there's no scratches from the metal on the door or anything... that sucks

check the door jambs. sometimes on the back edge of the door there are adjustment screws for the window tracks

Default interesting...

on my 2002 RS, when i press the auto down button on the drivers side, the window squeaks, and hten makes a small 'klank' about 2/3 of the way down. I think the window maybe misaligned or something, and its rubbing on the way down...

anyone have this problem? maybe this could cause scratches?

Angry

Well I am off to the local dealer yet AGAIN today. After I took my RS in just last week- they screwed the windows up even more! Now the front window rolls down really SLOW & one of the back windows has brand new scratches & the other one won't seal properly after their so called adjustments!! I bet it is just a matter of time before there are more scratches in the other windows. AND they punctured the arm rest on 3 out of 4 doors!!!!

Gezzz....it is THAT difficult to get the windows adjusted PROPERLY!!!??

What a bunch of lameo's......:monkey:

SOA tells me I can't take my baby to another dealer....I have to cope with these "people".

Thanks Cujo31...I'll see if they can at LEAST look for the adjustment screws this time!

Default I just got my windows replaced

in my RS Coupe and they need to realign my passenger door because it goes up to high in the back and too low in the front.

One thing that really pisses me off is that they broke both my door panels while doing it. I just noticed this last night when I was detailing my car!

I will give them one chance to make things right or else i'm going to the owner of the dealership as well as SOA!

Dan,
Are you getting scratches in your windows or just the wonderul klanks & squeaks?

Kevin,
I have already talked with the regional SOA Rep about all my problems with the dealer & windows just 3 weeks ago. He couldn't explain it to my satisfaction why my RS continues to have problems. Basically he told me to let the dealer have another try at fixing it....... LAMEO response.....as if 10 times weren't enough to get it right!!

I had some scratches the dealer couldn't explain on two of the inside windows, they keep telling me there may be something in the felt. But everytime they have checked the felt they say it is clean...

Gezz, I just had the felt replaced at the end of last year...how long does SOA THINK the felt will last?? Isn't SUPPOSED to last more than a few months??

I get my RS back this afternoon....I hope they fixed it right THIS time. OH YEAH....tint #4!!!! Anyone have ideas what I should do next if they didn't get it fixed right this time?

Default klanjks

i got klanks on the driver side, when i press the auto down button.

about 2/3 of the way it makes a click, and then when its all the way down it makes another click.

most of the time it squeaks too, when i roll down the window, like its rubbing against something.

I am afraid that if i get my tint installed, that this rubbing will mess up the tint.

I dont see scratches yet, tho.

Hey Dan,
I have had nothing but problems with my tint. I had it installed before I took delivery. The dealer says, that maybe part of the problem....and HOW many other RS/WRX have tint?? Give me a break.

Have you ever had your windows adjusted or looked at by SOA? It sounds like something is rubbing...I would get it checked out, scratches may be next. As long as you don't have to take it to the same dealer as me!!

Thumbs down

OK, so I get my car back on Wed afternoon & I swear this dealer I have been taking my baby to is giving me nothing but a load of crap. Not only have they not fixed the problem with the windows dragging when they go up & down, but now there is damage to the window stripping & are new scratches on both the sides of my car! Guess I will get to buff out all those scratches myself, cause I am NOT taking it anywhere near THAT Subaru dealer again!!!

What recourse do I have with the dealer? SOA tells me I can't take it to a different dealer, so NOW what do I do?

That's a load of BS...not being able to take it to another dealer. I've had my car in at 3 different dealerships getting warranty work done. Take it to another dealership, and see if they are any better.

I attempted to take my RS into another local dealer to be worked on prior to the last two "learning experiences".

I requested to meet with the regional SOA rep at the new dealer before they started working on my RS. At this point the local new dealer started questioning me about why I wanted to meet with the SOA rep. I told him of my troubles with the windows & the other dealership. He pulled the history of my car & about had a cow, he then told me they wouldn't work on it due to the history of the car...he flat out denied warranty service.

I was told I had to meet with the SOA rep at the dealer that had done the work on my car and that the previous dealer was responsible to fix things. How can they do THAT? Was I fed mushroom food?

Default fixing the windows

hey all

if you are a semi-brave soul, you can adjust the windows yourself.

take off the door panel and the plastic waterguard (you'll probably need more goo to put it back in place)

reconnect the window mechanism so you can roll the window up and down to test your mods

you'll see 2 pairs of brass nuts near the top front and rear of the door inner skin with small screws inside...these adjust the angle of the window rails inward and outward. one nut per rail at the bottom front and rear of the door skin as well (non adjustable...you can use a washer as a spacer, but probably not necessary). these are 12 or 14 mm...can't remember.

inside the top edges of each of the rails, there is a 10mm nut that you can loosen and adjust the height of the window; ie how high it can go...this gets loose with time and needs to be lowered (usually) so the window aligns correctly with the door seal. very difficult to reach; open end 10mm is your best bet

i tinkered for about an hour figuring out the best height and pitch (inward outward) of the window, making small adjustments. be careful that the window doesn't fall off the rails...mine did, and it's a b1tch to get back on....but possible. adjusting the motor mechanism up and down helps some too.

i had deep scratches (3 years worth) to start and still heard scraping everytime i rolled the window down. now it's smooth...no more new scratches. i have window tint as well.

for the clunking sound, it's the window hitting the wireloom in the door 2/3 of the way down, and the bottom of the rail at the front of the door. just move the wires out of the way some with some zip ties...make sure it does not get in the way of the glass!

also put some adhesive foam on both of the stoppers (what the 10mm bolt is attached to) and some squishy foam inside the door rail itself...a small piece does the trick...damn i wish i had a digital camera...this gets rid of that thunk sound.

if you can, bend the felt strips away from the glass a little with a vice grip and cloth, or really good pliers...and i mean a little...1mm would do the trick. careful not to **** up your door.

rattling door...figured out what it is. the door skin is not attached to anything in the middle. it flexes when you shut the door. and because the window rails and glass are attached to the the door skin, they flex too...hence the rattling. i figure if there was some more support between the rails and door skin, and a brace along the door, the rattling wouldn't be so bad...i'll try this soon.

well...sorry for blowing out your eyes with this long post, but if you're patient, it works.

Just one little comment...the reason they don't want you to go to another dealer is simple.

If the first dealer damaged your car, they are responsible. Not SOA, and definitely not another Subaru dealer. No other dealership will want to be involved in this issue, because they don't want to pay for another dealership's mistakes.

Specific warranty issues can obviously be addressed at any dealership, but your problems have gone beyond the standard warranty fix. You're complaining of scratches and damage you say occurred at a particular dealership. The other dealerships had nothing to do with that damage, and SOA might not reimburse them to repair it, so they want nothing to do with it, understandably. You need to continue working through SOA, and ask them to lean on the dealership in question for you(as you have been). Just keep at it though, it's the only way you'll get this resolved.

for what its worth...my 96 legacy outback always had slight problems with the driver's window leaving roller marks and my 03 wrx seems to also have some problems with both front door windows. seems like a chronic subaru weakness in design.
