Default So What Does This Do? (radiator ques)

I just got my PWR radiator today and it looks great. There were a couple bent fins that I corrected, but there are also some tabs at the bottom that are bent. I'm sure I can bend them straight, but I don't think I'm going to need them. As far as I can tell, they are used to mount the 'radiator under cover'. But what does it actually do? I would imagine Subaru thought it was useful in some way, but I fail to see it. This radiator is going into my GFA conversion, so I don't have this cover to analyze.

You can see this cover just below the radiator in this picture marked as (29):

From the picture I say lose it, but my suggestion might change if I saw it in person.

That piece encourages cooling air to travel through the core fins, instead of around the bottom of the radiator core.

Austin, that is what I would figure, but the placement doesn't really make sense. To me, the air above the radiator support is already going to go through the rad and a barrier below and behind the radiator wouldn't have that great of an effect. Of course, I don't have one to look at so I can't be sure.

It's the same idea as rubber ducting for a TMIC, the same reason you have foam between the top of the radiator and the support that goes in front of it. The same reason there is such a tight fan shroud on the two radiator fans.

Air will always take the path of least resistance (like anything), and flowing through a heat exchanger core is not low resistance compared to flowing around a heat exchanger core.
