Delta Dash Software (disappointment)

I downloaded the delta dash software last night to try out, see if i would actually want to purchase the thing.
All though there is good data there, i find presentation severely lacking. The program itself has a mac feal (separate floating windows, i hate that!) and almost seems like some sort of open source project you'd download off of freshmeat. To me it seams very unfinished, I went to the ecutek forums and found that quite small. it seams as though its a one guy operation, again like an open source project, only without the benefits of open source. I would think for the price of this product, you would get a more finished product.

Software updates are released regularly for download. I realize also that this is all relatively new, and development takes time (my best bud is a programmer.. i'm the network guru) but come on...

edit: just to clarify before some loyalist starts to flame me, I'm not looking for some bloated fluffy imaged filled gui. I absolutely hate bloated software. I'm merely speaking of interface, functionality, and data representation abilities.

Perhaps you and your friend should share your ideas with Stephen Done in the EcuTek forums.

Or reverse-engineer the Subaru ECUs and write a more "finished" open source replacement.

You downloaded it, tried it for free, and don't like it. So don't buy it.

If you're using only the stock ECU, then there's no other way to log this data at a decent speed other than DeltaDash. Once you have the logs, they are easily dropped into a spreadsheet or a statistical analysis program for detailed analysis with pretty graphs, tables, etc..

If you're doing subaru specific stuff Deltadash is well worth the money. The next best thing you can get is a select monitor (official subaru tool) which will cost you thousands.

Sure it's written by one guy.... I've seen software written by large teams that is alot worse.

You know what I do when I don't like software packages? I re-write them myself. If you don't have the capability you should be thankful for what you can get. How many companies do you know of that would write software that is specific to one car manufacturer and limit their revenue?

Go grab a commercial OBD-II software package... for functionality it won't even come close.

Think of it this way, the G-Tech Pro costs around $250, and I think the road dyno features on delta dash outmatches the G-Tech...

Add in the ability to do overall fueling adjustments, and other things, (if you pay for the ecutek reflash) and this program is definitely worth it.

You might try to find someone who has it and see how fast and easy it is for them to use.... seriously.

It's kinda like photoshop in a way, where the longer you use it, the more friendly it becomes. For instance, on the road dyno, you can't save the constants, like tire size... However, if you open your last road dyno, it's ready to go.

Agree'd. Compare the deltadash to other automotive software, and you'll find that the Delta Dash is one of the better ones out there in terms of looks and functionality.

When I first saw deltadash I was very pleased with the UI. Comming from the VW world, I was used to using a horrible piece of software with much less capabilities and horrible UI. Honestly deltadash isn't perfect but its quite a nice package.

I know I already commented once here, but... people who have the software, or have demo'd it, and have criticisms that they can pose constructively should definitely bring up their ideas or report quirks in the EcuTek forums. There's *always* room for improvement in any product. The EcuTek people have implemented something like 5 of the 6 things I asked for in the last 8 months and I've seen them do the same for other people. They're very open to reasonable change requests that make sense in the big scope of the software.

Just because they have a grip on the market for fast datalogging and the software is "okay when compared to other pieces of crap" doesn't mean it can't be better.

yes.. thats all i was really saying.

I'm going to get the delta dash, looks like free updates for life (atleast for now). the guy that tuned my ecutek showed me some things with it when we were out on the road. and i looked at other software interfaces out there, and the delta dash is actually far better then those. once i start playing with it more, connected to my car.. i'll be sure to make plenty of seggestions.

i don't think anyone said it couldn't be better... but for once subaru has something thats at the top of the aftermarket choices... i'm just waiting for cobbs stuff now... and waiting...
